Have you ever wondered what happened to good old fashioned black football boots? Hardly anyone wears them these days, its all yellows, blues, oranges and pinks.

If it ain't Puma Kings I don't give a rats ass!!

Funnily enough I agree with you Grove. My 9 year old plays for his school team and I will only buy him black boots (or those that are mostly black). I can't really explain why but I think black boots should be worn. Like Alex Ferguson said, his players can only have 'coloured' boots when in the first team, otherwise you have to wear black ones.

i would only buy black boots for my boy but as he is now 17 his new pair is bright orange, instead of goal line technology fifa should be debating wether we can ban coloured boots

My boy soon realised that the more poncey the boot, the better player you have to be. So he switched ( after having been on a pro clubs books for a bit - nightmare that will be told when the time is right) to rugby. Now the colourful boots are coming in there as well, but the gumshields are the flashiest bit of kit.
He still does not know what dubbin is, thinks boots (and kit) is self cleaning...

Uniform presentation doesn't work where random variations are involved.

Football kit is as uniform as any other formal dress codes.

Seeing players wearing colours not in keeping (and often ridiculously contrasting) with those of their club looks as offside as troops, police or similar workers would if they were allowed to sport an assortment of differently coloured footwear.

My kid thought Dubbin was me nickname, after hearing his Mum repeatedly saying they needed Dubbinin as she waved the filthy boots at me.

This is definetly a thread for the older generation. Plain black boots are quite an old fashioned look, which some of my footy team mates like anyway.

But the whole "why cant they wear good old fashioned black boots" makes you sound like old grumpy men :)

And how would "black" boots go with Blue and White hoops?

Far better than yellow, green & orange boots for example.

Franckster, if your elders wish to indulge in a harmless bit of nostalgia tinged moaning, best to leave us to it. We have few pleasures left in life as it is.
Actually we have all the pleasures available to you, with the addition of enjoying them with hard won experience and cunning. Probably have a weight advantage as well, so continue at your peril....

Personally I like coloured boots if they go with the kit.....i.e Blue and White boots with ours.

But Pink boots.....thats another story mr Tamas Priskin!

That was my last post on it, if he can't get over it and want's to act like a silly old sod, it's up to him.
Unbelievable that he thinks what he wrote is acceptable, old Jim has lost his charm.

Apparently the youth team are only allowed to wear black boots - according to Marc Bircham at any rate. Boots also used to made from leather, they look like plastic nowadays too
