Why are gooners so embarrassed about the size of their r's that they have to miss them out? Or is this just goonerish? please log in to view this image So what, exactly, is Chistmas?
The 'rents returned from Brazil. They didn't bring Leandro with them. One thing they did bring back, however, is there's a lot of talk around Barcelona about the possibility of Txiki Begiristain heading our way. Sidestepping any debate about the DoF role for a moment, not least because of how badly it went with Comolli's reign of error, this has two advantages: We would be able to attract any manager he identified as the man to take us forward, and it would serve as a statement of intent to key members of the squad. Also, Townsend got an assist for Brum.
Bostock got a splinter for Swindon on the bench again yesterday. Not sure about the whole DoF system. It certainly makes sense in theory but we've seen the problems that come with it when you get a manager and DoF with differing views. You could argue that Levy currently has some of the DoF jobs and he hasn't done so bad but he will always have an opinion on transfers so perhaps it's better to keep it to two voices rather than three. Another big problem is that Levy tended to side with the DoF rather than the coach, that needs to change if it's going to work. I'd rather we steered clear.
The main issue of the DoF system is we kept going about it wrong. When we had Pleat as DoF, his remit was to scout young British talent in the lower leagues to bring in and polish up, and he did his task...albeit with mixed results - Simon Davies was a real find, whilst Anthony Gardner and Gary Doherty were anything but. When Arnesen was DoF, his remit was similar - bring in young English talent, as well as selecting a new manager - and for the former he did so with Carrick and Defoe arriving, and the latter he identified and brought in Martin Jol, only for Levy to get cold feet and bring in a bigger name in Santini, although that soon resolved itself with Santini flouncing out PDQ. The Commoli era is where it went wrong, on both fronts: Levy expected the DoF to work with the manager they're given, which is the exact opposite of how the DoF role works (and later went over Comolli's head to acquire Modric and attempt to sign Arshavin), yet Comolli went against the instructions given him by Jol when it came to player acquisitions, as well as Jol having to ask levy directly to bring in Berbatov. The DoF system works on the continent because the chairman, the DoF and the manager all understand their roles and stay within them. Of the three DoFs we've had, Pleat stayed within his remit (although Judas tried to blame him for his defection), Arnesen stayed within his remit - albeit Levy overruled him one time - whilst Commoli was an utter disaster.
Re-read what he said, not what your eyes presume he said. -------------- I know what he said Canary, it was just some stupidly pedantic comment by him so I decided to play him for the fool he is
Have your drink on me Dona, everywhere I go on this site today, I see you having a rant !! Fair play to you, at least you're showing genuine passion for your football club. Don't agree with all you've been saying, but hey, that's what these sites are all about. I'm keeping quiet for the moment (unusual for me) as I am still bloody steaming from yesterday. I actually walked out of the ground 5 minutes before the end as I was so bloody pissed off, and the last time I did that was in the dark Terry Neill days in the 70's. Enjoy your drink mate, I'll happily pay for it
cheers Spurcat..i was wondering where you and other fans were with these debates..im very passionate about our club and refuse to join bandwagons...as you say its debate...im sure im misled in many opinions..however i am open to be put right...because i believe we all have one common passion and that is to see Spurs progress.. yesterday was strange...i couldnt believe the fashion in which we performed considering what is at stake....i hope there is some finger pointing going on so that we can regalvanise for our Wemley trip. cheers for the drink
the thing keeping my spirits up is my other team Sutton.they only need 3 points from 3 games, and they are in the play offs in the blue square bet south.two home games and one away.
ive always tried to have 'another' team...and tried it with my home town Huddersfield Town...but god do i struggle to give any other team attention
Sometimes I wish I had a 2nd team to fall back on for comfort, support, keeping my spirits up etc etc. But I don't and I didn't sleep at all last night, kicking every ball of yesterdays game.
Sutton are my home town team, and a dream came true back in the eighties when Spurs first team hoddle ardiles crooks etc played Sutton.
Comolli's gone http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17687524 Quelle surprise, or as the French would say...
Always remember that when Kenny was in charge of Newcastle, he signed long past-it relics of Liverpool's past like Ian Rush and John Barnes. Expect to see Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen arrive in the summer.
