Trouble in Bilbao tonight before their match with Spartak Moscow:

Sadly a policeman has lost his life too after he reportedly suffered a heart attack, RIP :( - http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43164001

Absolutely mental that there is going to be a World Cup hosted in Russia where they can't limit who travels etc.

Anyone on here making the trip?

Russians are different breed when it comes to footy violence.

Us lot just get pissed and have the occasional knuckle. Those train in dedicated gyms and have to earn their stripes. ****ing crazy.

I think you underestimate how tough some of the top firms in English football are.

I'd like to see the Russians go to Millwall, West Ham, Leeds or Stoke and have ago.

The English fans they encountered in the Euros where not football hooligans.

Most of our proper hooligans are banned, but it doesn't change that ours are in the main out of shape and go and get off their head on beer and marching powder compared to the Russians who are MMA trained, fighting fit and go sober.

    It's a ****s game anyway tbh.

There is a lot more to being tough, than being in great shape and training MMA. I also think that's just abit exaggerated, anyone would think the Russians had 200 Conor McGregors running into action at the Euros.

British football hooligans have the reputation in Europe for a reason. It's not always about being a perfect fighting athlete, it's often more about how tough you are mentally.

There are plenty of black belts, who would get smashed to bits by just general tough blokes who've had no professional training at all.

Yeah I agree generally but most of the time, fit young men who are basically athletes and are sober will get the better of middle aged blokes who are out of shape and pissed out of their head.

Our 'reputation' was from decades ago, hardly ****ing relevant now.

Your probably not wrong, I just remember what it was like visiting some grounds when I used to go to games.

I never used to get involved in anything like that myself, but I remember what some of these firms here where like.

200 one-round wonders (two rounds at best) with big mouths? You disrespect the Russians. 200 Khabib's on the other hand, now that'd be a frightening prospect lol.

I'd say us Brits have the reputation mainly based on history (70s/80s) and that we basically invented hooligansim in football. While we've still got a few firms who can have a scrap, up against any of the proper Eastern European firms (especially Russians), I wouldn't fancy our chances tbh.

I get what KS is saying.

Although this maybe a step to far for them. They have politics and the coppers to contend with.

I think you're largely talking about the past though. Not now.

Probably the difference these days is that the police have got football hooligans relatively under control in the UK, where as in Russia and other European country's they haven't.

Fights still happen in the UK, but it's on a much smaller scale than in the 70s and 80s, rather than 200 v 200 it's more like 20 v 20. As large groups are easy for the police to spot.

I still think that their are plenty of nutters here in the UK, and plenty of firms even the Russians would have trouble with, I just think it's on a much smaller scale to what it used to be.

To say they are all trained MMA fighters, is a little bit of an exaggeration too I think.

<laugh>. I knew quite a few of them in my day.
Handy lads some of them, others good in a crew but 1 on 1 not so handy

The top ones got into the drugs game and that was that, others just got families that made them grow up
