Would rather it not have been as tense yesterday but also remarkably proud that we were able to dig in for the the first time in recent memory

We haven't really had many games this season where the defence and goal keeper have won us the points we've won games by out scoring the opposition (and/or) the opposition blow their chances to score

To be honest I like the look of our defence far more without TV than with him

Apart from his first (excellent) season he has never really consistently played well for us and has at least 1 major error per game

Also, as a captain he appears to fail at inspiring the players, he's not a loud player and Arteta seems far more effective although it'd be weird to change our captain for the 5th time in about 5 years

Biggest signing of next summer for us will be a top draw centre back even if that means breaking our transfer record. Think of the impact someone like a Hummels could make to our side!

Wow thanks for taking a genuine concern about our captain and supposedly 1st choice centre back and turning it into a joke

Well - It is a joke really, isn't it?

I am sort of used to people raging at our players but c'mon, this is just plain silly.

I only watch iPlayer and 4oD. Saves having to buy a TV license.

Anyone have win % stats for each of the current CBs / CB pairs? Could make for interesting reading.

Lighten up mate, it's only people having a bit of fun. You shouldn't take it so seriously. Besides, there might be something decent on later . .

Vermaelen is still our best centreback.

Dont get me wrong Hummels would be an incredible signing but the guy is not going anywhere for less than £30Million.

He is a quality player and very versatile. He's just having a dip in form that's all. Also i would love to see him play as a DM too. Very good tackler, good skill on the ball, strong, has a good head and has a nice shot.

I love the title of this thread. The OP (all jokes aside) makes some good points. Vermahlen has not been at his best recently but I don't think it's a blip as some are suggesting I think it's a dip in form which seems to reside with him more these days. IMO 'TV' has never been the same since his long layoff but he is still one of the best battlers we have in our squad.

Sorry I don`t buy TV playing badly. Gibbs, for all his positive qualities isn`t the best defensive left back (let`s not talk about Santos), Metersaker is stuck for pace and Cazorla and Podolski, who have been mostly playing on the left left are not much help.

For a left-sided CB to look even average with all that going on round him, is downright impressive. Give the guy a break!

We kept two clean sheets against Stoke and Sunderland earlier in the season, as well. TV played in both those games. Just a fact. Let's not draw too much from both these two games, because Stoke and Sunderland hardly have the attacks to REALLY test us. In fact, the only reason Sunderland even got a sniff on Saturday was because we went down to ten men. Also, it's easier to defend when your backs are against the wall, because everyone is going to help us defend and the space is reduced. And even then Chensey had to pull off a few stunning saves.
