Working from home and distracted... so a new thread for distraction.. What is your best ever ever ever QPR moment? Mine was Clive Allen scoring with his knee at Highbury in the semi final of the cup and then the whistle going - we knew we were going to an FA cup final for the first time in our history. The FA cup was a big deal back then. This game was better than the final for me. We had the North Bank packed and R's went crazy.
Yeh, I was at that one. Totally wild. Biggest party ever that night. I think that was my favourite game too. Beating Leeds final game Div 1 in 76 to go top, with Stanley sealing it late on, runs it very close.
The 2-0 win over Leeds in May 76, for ten days we could dream of being deserved League Champions until Wolves folded in the final 15 minutes at home to Liverpool...
Those crazy mid 70's days were a bit before my time and the 82 cup journey was before my memory kicked in. Think for me, it was probably the home leg of the play off final v Oldham. It was the beginning of the re-birth and an atmosphere to behold. Close behind comes promotion at Hillsborough and maybe beating Liverpool away in 91.
I have two best days. 1. The Leeds game, final game in the Championship. Beforehand all the worrying about points deductions etc. 38 years supporting QPR and this was the first trophy I seen us lift. I was at 3 wembley games (82, 82 replay and 86) and we lost in both 82 & 86. I wasn't around to see us lift the 83 second division title as I lived here. I balled my eyes out when Adel lifted the trophy. Went to the pub afterwards and sang Paddy Kenny's having a party for the next 6 hours as I gradually got more and more pissed. The pure joy. 2. Hillsborough promotion 2003 Not as good as the Leeds match but was a great feeling all the same. The hurt of being in the third tier for 3 years was over. The flight to East Midlands from Dublin that morning must have had 20 R's on board. The journey down the motorway from Sheffield to East Midlands after the game seeing all the R's happy was amazing. Some cars were literally bouncing with all the partying. We went to a pub in Nottingham before our flight home and asked for 4 promotion specials. The blonde serving us says, oooer where is that on the menu. Great day that I will take to my grave.
Well im a youngster compared to many on here (im guessing!). But for me it is many games in the promotion season - probably the best was Watford away when we 'confirmed' it. The atmosphere that day was unreal and a magical moment. Also being in the Springbok when the news re the points not being deducted was special. A massive celebration!
Mine will always be beating Chelsea 6-0 and helping to send them down Glory days as Springsteen would say
The Oldham game was amazing...but for me I have the happiest memory of going to loftus road worried we'd be relegated, and left having won 6-0 against Palace.
westlondon, yeh that highbury day was magic but the wembley win 67 was fanastic never seen anything like it stadium packed to the brim, that for me just shades it but there has been so many, another one that stands out 4-1 hammering of utd at old trafford.
The Clive Allen goal for me - blimey the school playground was a good place that Monday morning. Also worth an honourable mention - Man Utd 1- 4 QPR in the early '90's. Who scored the hat trick? I'll remember in a minute...
I have a few tbh and it's hard to choose between them: 1) Clive Allen's winner at Highbury in the FA Cup semi. I was in the North Bank and we went stupidly crazy!! 2) All the games we played in Europe at Loftus Rd. (Magical nights) 3) That last game of the season against Leeds in '76. I was there along with 35 thousand others packed into Loftus Rd. 4) Another last game of the season v Leeds, this time the Championship winning season. Watching Adel lift that trophy with my two sons by my side was simply euphoric!!
Agree that day at Highbury when we knocked WBA out of the FA cup in the semi final was the most amazing ever. I would say QPR fans that day were the loudest ive ever heard in the 35 years of supporting them.I really thought the noise was going to take the roof of the North Bank off.We had a really good well organised side in whats now the championship under Terry Venables and we defied all the odds turning over a team in a league higher than us. I also remember well the 1/4 final game that season when Clive Allen scored a 91st minute winner against Palace in front of the Loft and then ran the length of the pitch and goaded the Palace fans the team he just left and nearly caused a riot.
