A real gent with an incredible life story. I grew up listening to his exploits from my Dad who thought he was brilliant, despite being an Ethel Merman.
R.I.P. It's life stories like Bert's that old farts like me have in the back of our minds when we bewail the excesses of present day football/footballers.
obviously he is well before my time but playing with a broken neck is what i will remember him for doing. RIP
