He's not past it though is he? To be fair, if we can accept Gallas and Ade into the side (and don't tell me you didn't hate them just as much as me) then Berbatov, should he start scoring would not be a problem.

I never had a problem with Adebayor at all, Chirpy.
I had reservations about Gallas, having played for both Chelsea and Arsenal, but I understood why Redknapp wanted to sign him.
    I didn't hate either player.

There are players that I wouldn't want us to sign due to a lack of quality, but some commit acts off the pitch which deserve contempt.
Berbatov is one of the few that've managed that with purely football-based actions.

As for him being past it, it's hard to tell. He doesn't look anything like the player that he was a couple of years ago, but that could all change in the right environment.
It's an odd feeling to see him and Torres looking so dire at the moment, as that pairing would've scared the hell out of virtually anyone in the recent past.
    Yours for only £80m! <laugh>

The way he flops around these days he looks no different to Pav. I'm not going to get nostalgic because I don't think we'll see the Berb that played for us again, he was at his peak with us imo, but was still lazy. He openly admitted you won't see him running about doing defensive work, and will only get slower from here, so no from me.

not for me now,i think we had the best out of him first time round, since moving north he has'nt set the world alight like fergie though he would,a few decent games, when he scored a few goals, but i don't think you'll see that again

If anything, his stats say exactly the opposite.

    2008-09 43 apps 14 goals
    2009-10 43 apps 12 goals
    2010-11 42 apps 21 goals
    2011-12 19 apps 09 goals

He seems to have moved from producing a goal in every three games, in his first two years, to a goal every other; Comfortably better than he was at Spurs. Ain't perception an odd thing?

We got better by using the money we got for him. Just like we were all suicidal when carrick went until we bought players with THAT cash. The same will eventually happen with Bale. Until we sort out the stadium this is the only way we can make big signings.

As for berbatov's conduct,it was shabby, but can somebody tell me how Adebayor is any different, except he did it to somebody else and not us?

meaning? we couldnt improve if we didnt sell Berbatov? i dont think that is true...yeh sure the transfer fee boosted our coffers but it sounds like we owe him a thank you the way you put it...and even if we did improve due to the money we got for him....that doesnt mean we should re sign him or that he didnt show disrespect...i cant recall thinking that wow we got alot of money for him we will just get better..i actually thought what a kunt. The money issue doesnt play a part in sentiment.

What message would his (Berbatov) return send out to the rest of the squad at Spurs., particularly Defoe. IMO, the message would be that
    a) 'is OK to sulk when picked to put on a Spurs shirt, because you think you stand a better chance of winning something somewhere else'
    b) Its OK to leave Spurs in the lurch when you like. because Spurs will always have you back.
He WAS a very good player for us and was adored by the majority of the fans here, me included,. but that was a while back and in anycase, we have done OK, thankyou, without him. (smile)

You're right Chirpy it is, the season he scored 20 was the one he scored 3 hat-tricks in a short period...he doesn't do that every season. :emoticon-0105-wink:

All I am saying is that without selling Carrick there would have BEEN no Berbatov. Without selling Berbatov there would be no Modric etc etc. We have improved generally but the money from sales has accellerated that proccess. You are in denial if you think that isn't the case. How he went was regretable, THAT he went meant we could progress more quickly.
As for you feeling disrespected; I think that like all players, (no matter what they say) the fans influence on any choices they make is small indeed, as is their influence on any choice the club makes. WE are just not in the process. No club feels "direspected" when they get 31 million quid for somebody.

So we shouldn't count hat tricks? Remind me of that if the anyone we have up front right now should ever manage to score one let alone three. <laugh>

Chirspy., We got 31 million because that is what he was worth at the time., He did'nt personally give Spurs that money out of his own bank account. I don't quit understand your arguement here.

    I don't understand yours.
Firstly his goalscoring record, far from being in decline, appears to be improving.
Secondly Adebayor's behaviour at previous clubs has been at least as unappealing as Berbatov's was when he forced a move.
Lastly his move meant we could improve more quickly than if he'd stayed.

That is ALL I am arguing.

Haha you are reaching with your Ade stat, but granted they have been thin on the ground since. Unlike Ade's though, they all count!

  18. On balance, I'd have Berbs back.

Yes, it was disgraceful the way he behaved, but I'd happily use any guilty conscience he has over that matter to our advantage to get him playing like he used to, when he was with us. Imagine him and Saha starting against United, next season! Surely, there couldn't be two better players to make a point, and gain us our first win against United in over a decade?

Also, Berbatov would give competition for VDV, which I think he needs, to keep him sharp.

Yes Chirpy, All I'm saying is that, if a club is forced to sell a player valued at say 31 million, it could be seen that the club has in fact lost an asset. The selling of such a player should not simply be viewed as a 31 million pound gain. Spurs are not a shop or a bank, we play football. At the time Spurs lost a player who was a key member of the squad.
