Have you ever seen a turn around such as the left hand side of the team. 18-24 months ago i think most people were ready to off load bale and benoit but now luck at them. Everything has been said about bale and rightly so but the high level of play on a consistent level that benny has produced has been second to none. I'll admit that i was one of many shouting and being frustrated with him but this season just gone benny has gone from strength to strength. yes he makes some mistake but even the the so called world class players have done. as the season tailed off i think we missed him and bale playing in tandem as they have a good understanding. he has got to be one of the top 3 left backs in the premiership. beeny rules Coys!!!!
I'm a fan and I think that his odd mistakes this season were caused by fatigue, basically. He didn't have a real break in the summer because of the World Cup and was played relentlessly, racking up 44 games without a break, prior to his injury. Hopefully the emergence of Rose as a pretty natural looking left-back should mean that Assou-Ekotto won't have to play every single game, so that we can get him at 100% more often. He's definitely unorthodox, but he's a very good left-back.
I don't know anyone that hasn't changed their opinion of Benny. I was in favour of giving him time when he looked really shakey but after awhile even I'd turned on him. Having Bale, Ekotto and Rose on the left is a massive difference from where we were a few years ago with YP Lee and Malbranque on the left
Benny I love the guy. Have you seen the interview on the beeb website, smart car, oyster card to travel on the tube So laid back ,I wish more prem footballers were like this .
Just seen he was listed by Piers Edwards in the African 11 of the year. Good to see his great form is not going unnoticed, aslong as it doesn't spark a load of rumours and interest in him! http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/piersedwards/2011/06/african_xi.html
Nice honest bloke and an extremely good left-back. Also, not a bad shout for Spurs' player of the season.
I think his close control is exceptional for a full back. When he's got the ball, always calm and it looks difficult to get it off him, and not wasteful with his distribution. I'm glad he's under the radar, but in another way surprised his performances have gone un-noticed by other clubs. Long may he and Bale stay. I'm equally impressed by Rose in that position, I'd seen talk of a LB as back up for Benny, I don't think thats necessary at all now.
Defenders don't get the plaudits that strikers receive very often. In our case he stands out, well the strikers certainly do not. Benny is my Spurs player of the season.
