    Don't encourage him Nicklas....

Sunderland striker Nicklas Bendtner says he and Stephane Sessegnon are building a useful partnership for boss Steve Bruce at the Stadium of Light.

Bendtner, 23, netted his first goal for the Wearsiders in Saturday's 2-2 draw against West Brom, with Sessegnon heavily involved in the build-up.

"We try to find each other, to look to get each other in good positions," Bendtner told BBC Newcastle.

"We do a lot of work on it in training and you can see it's paying off."

The combination between the Denmark international and his Benin counterpart was recognised by Bruce, who paired the duo together for a fourth consecutive game.

"Sessegnon and Bendtner gave a fantastic performance and I think they were terrific today," Bruce said.

    Sunderland manager
"They haven't played with each other for long, but you can see a little understanding developing already.

"But that will improve, and we will get better as a team and as a squad."

Since the striker completed a loan move to Sunderland from Arsenal on transfer deadline day, the Wearsiders have taken four points from 12, with defeats at home to Chelsea and away to Norwich.

It is such form that sees the Black Cats occupy 16th place in the Premier League, although Bendtner is confident the club can improve on that standing.

"We have great players here and we should be in a different position in the table," Bendtner added.

"It's down to us to prove that and not talk about it, we'd rather show on the pitch that we should be at the other side of the table.

"I'm sure we will in the weeks to come after the international break, because we're good enough and strong enough, but we need those back-to-back wins."

I agree with SB on this one. They did look as if an understanding was beginning. Just my opinion tho which am entitled to.

I agree they are getting better, but I would still like to see Sess on the right or left with Wickham or Ji up top with Bendtner.

All Sess's best work was him breaking from midfield imo.

What he said, Not a striker or a specialist forward, but better coming from a deeper midfield position to support a front two where he has more options to play that through bell.
