Sad to see him go....got a lot of time for Ben. Would have to assume Manga is staying put unless they've got someone else coming in, though.

Either Manga is staying or they already have someone else lined up on lower wages. Turner's injury problems would be a worry which is probably why he's not been offered another contract. A one year deal would have been worth a punt though at 28 probably not something he would have wanted.

Scary to see how few games Lewis, Velikonja and Kiss played given the length of contracts they had.

Good to see a number of youngsters given extensions or their first pro-contracts. Hopefully something Trollope will want to develop. Not seen any youngsters given a go for a while. It was some time before Ralls was given a chance.

Shame Jazzi Barnum-Bobb is going. Looked ok when he had a couple cup games for us. Worth a place in the squad if only for the name!!

Now that formality is out of the way, need to see a few sales and a few signings. The former will be as much a statement of intent as the latter.

A bit sad to see Turner go but not surprised, too many injuries.

I think Magna will go too if the price is right.

I'd like to see Trollope get rid of the dead wood and those who are too comfortable and don't put a full shift in.

I've been saying much the same thing for a while Dai.

There was too much of the "Cosy Cafe" culture under Slade - he had his favourites. Amongst other things it proved our undoing. Players like Revell, Doyle, Malone and to a certain extent Peltier were were picked to play because he'd bought them and they fitted his thinking, not because they were necessarily the best we had.

Time for a shake up and I just hope Trollope is the man to do it.

I think that's harsh on Peltier. He was a decent low cost signing and is a very solid (if unspectacular) right back.

I'd expect anything much over £3m to see the end of Manga's stay with us. I'm happy to start the season with Morrison and Connolly as first choice. We'll obviously need some back up but a guy who's been injured most of his career isn't really the best back up. I wish Turner all the best, he always gave us 100% and scored one of the most exciting goals in our history but it would have been a real risk to offer him a contract.

I didn't intend being harsh on Peltier, just realistic about a fullback who is exactly as you say - a decent low cost signing.

The fact is that he's solid but very limited. Although he's able to contribute toward saving a game, he'll never win you one.

We need better going forward if we're going to challenge the likes of Newcastle, Norwich and Villa next season let alone this season's top 6 finishers who failed to get up. Fabio would be the right sort although he does scare me on times.

Always liked Ben Turner. Probably too big a risk now with his injury problems. Sad to see him go.

The good news is the five players not having contracts renewed will mean atleast five million per year off the wage bill.

That's a few more agents that won't be getting any more money from us.

As with most on here I'm sorry to see Big Ben leaving us and hope he can get a contract with another club. Coventry maybe, if they can afford him. I would hate to see him sign for another Championship club and then come back to haunt us next season with a dominant display.

I was at the friendly at Yeovil 2 seasons ago when he went in for a tackle in a no risk situation and it was obvious he had repeated the injury he had just recovered from. His own reaction told the story straightaway.

Good luck Ben and thanks for some great memories. <ok>

As for the other "first teamers", no surprises there although I would have liked a statement to say we were looking for takers for ALF, Doyle and Macheda (whatever the loss we have to take) to get them off the books as I can't see them playing any part next season. I guess Trollope wants to give the likes of Kennedy and Harris a chance although I can't see enough in them to make me think they could make a serious contribution to a side looking for promotion next season.

God luck also to the youngsters being released. It must be terrible for them. Hope they can find somewhere in a lower league team. They liked Barnum-Bobb at Newport on loan so you never know.

I hope Kiss wasn't on £20k a week. To be honest I hope none of them were on £20k a week.

    £2.5-3M savings max.

KWJ was reportedly on £40k + a week. I expect Velikonja was on worryingly high wages too. We paid a decent fee for him. Turner was very much a first team player who'd have been on first team wages. It might not be £5m but I wouldn't be surprised if the total figure was pretty close.

Yeah, forgot KWJ would have accounted for a slug of that. Was thinking £10-15k a week for most of them.

Don't forget the add on costs, it's not just wages.

What about NI and insurance premiums against them getting a career ending injury. That's why I reckon on a minimum of £5m.

If the club are more or less certain he will not overcome his injury problems then its the right decision.

If he is fit then its Trollopes 1st mistake because hes the best defender at the club.

Manga is in the last year of his contract so we have to sell.

    Good luck Ben.

Read on WOL last night Ben saying he was willing to sign a deal that worked for both.

If he'd have accepted a low basic with decent appearance bonus (almost a pay as you play deal) then he should have been kept as backup that was good enough to put real pressure on Connolly and Morrison.

Only he and the club know the true extent of his injury and any possible future impact.

I'd have thought a player wanting to negotiate a low pay/pay as you play deal can't be that confident of his future fitness and ability to get a better deal elsewhere.

That sort of arrangement is usually confined to players coming toward the end of their careers and looking for a pension pot - that shouldn't apply to Turner. I reckon there must have been serious doubts about those suspect ankles of his for City not to consider him for another couple of seasons at least.

As for him being the best defender at the club, that depends upon what you mean by "defender". He certainly puts himself about and is a body on the line type of blocker, but when he's got the ball at his feet in the past he's been pretty clueless as to how to use it. I think Connolly as a modern "defender" is far and away better than him.

Anyway, good luck Ben - you deserve another Championship season to prove yourself fit even if it isn't to be with us.

On the flip side, he might be so confident of his fitness that he doesn't see pay as you play a risk as he'd expect to play every game.

I'm sure we'll find out as someone will take a risk on him.

Gave us some good times and deserves the plaudits.

I very much doubt that remote, and the prospect is always there in the background of the injury recurrence.

With Manga (currently), Connolly who's signed until 2019 and Morrison already in front of him, he might only end up with half a dozen games next season - not a great prospect financially.

To be honest he'd probably be better off negotiating a decent fixed contract elsewhere if he can, but I do admire his desire to stay and fight for his place.
