Reported in the YEP that we have been in talks with Beckfords agent personally I feel that at 31 he may be too old and will want too much money I have no doubt he can score goals but at league 1 level never really set the house on fire since he left Leeds but compared to Doukara he looks like Ronaldo! What do you think? I didn't realise McLean had another year left on his contract Ristac was quite correct so its a no no from me and Knockeart will be my choice I know I suggested Gray from Brum a bit tongue in cheek but believe me at £6m he would prove to be a bargain buy if Sterling is worth 45 m how much will this lad be worth in the not too distant future. If we are serious about promotion this is the type of investment we need Jamie Ward has not signed and is the type of player we need has got bags of experience in this league and is a fighter and a goal scoring winger
If you buy a player for £6m his wage would have to reflect your high opinion of him (clubs high opinion). There is just no way we are going to see those kind of transfer fee's paid, it would probably push us very near to having a FFP embargo again next season.
Yeah, bring Beckford back. He was responsible for probably the only two exciting Leeds moments of recent times.
Beckford back to Leeds? It must be summer (Groundhog Day). Fecking paper talk and in no way would it be a good move for either party. The first person who mentions bechio gets pelters! Alan Smith could still do a job.
Its reported Robinson wants to return as well I understand where you are coming from Ristac but this would send out a message we are serious about promotionand under FPR he can say he has bought him I was amazed when I saw this boy p-lay against us what pace and vision he had for someone so young Eddie Howe last season spent £3m on Wilson and they only they 10k crowds at best
Sorry to rain on your parade 60 but we are no longer a club that is capable of spending 6m on one player. We haven'tt been for a dozen years. It won't happen again until we are at least in our second season in the pl. I suggest you lower your sights dramatically on signings or you're going to be bitterly disappointed
Being old, my memory might be playing tricks on me, but I seem to remember that we had to play breakaway football for Beckford to be effective. We'd simply knock a ball over the top & he's steam though to be first on the ball. Fine if you like that style of play, and fine if the opposition let you. But they didn't. Most teams nullified the threat of Beckford by playing their defence deep. You've also got to ask yourself if at 31 he has the pace to even do his one trick.
It's called realism 60. Point out the last time we paid anything worthwhile for anyone. Dream on and believe what you want, I'm just pointing out it won't happen
Morning troops. I'd bring Beckford back in a heartbeat. I'd give him a 2 year deal & know with us playing proper footy, he could get a hatful
Nick Powell now that really is appetizing don't you think ideal for this league never attained is potential MU paid £8m for him from Crewe loaned him out to Wigan I wonder what they would want for him £2m?
Beckford, thanks for the goals, but time to move on. I thimk he best suited to league one, maybe the wall would be interested
Billy big boots, he went down in my estimation after he was trying to engineer a move, just because he scored against the scum. He may have scored the goal to send us up, but without Howsons equalizer it wouldn't have mattered. Missed more than he scored. If we are going to sign an ex player, I'd like P.Robinson back.
Remember Shaks, Beckford a shedload when we were playing a lot of hoofball. How many might he score if we continue to play proper footy?
Maybe Boggers, I just think he's a good L1 player, although he couldn't be any worse than our forwards at the moment. I will say, if we do resign him, I will back him..
Good man. That said, I doubt we'll re-sign him. Heyho, I think we could be in for a lively pre-season
But we're not serious about promotion, we're aiming for 10th place. And with all due respect to Gray, he's not going to make us promotion candidates straight away. We have glaring deficiencies elsewhere and we don't have an endless pot of money. He's a good player with great potential, but if we're going to be spending £6m on a single player I'd expect it to be someone who's going to come in and score 30 goals. Also you're ignoring the fact that Bournemouth only spent £3m on Wilson because they sold Grabban for the same fee to Norwich. As for Beckford: no good. Only ever scored consistently in League 1. Move on.
