    Thanks Sooper, that pretty much covers it. I always knew why the poppy itself was selected because it grew in Flanders etc but I didn't know exactly what it was commemorating.

    I do now though. It commemorates everyone killed in war so I can't really see why someone would object to wearing one if they're in a situation/Country where everyone else wears one. It is a British tradition so when in Rome etc.

    I'm more of a blue rump steak and chips fan or a decent lasagne man myself. Although having said that as soon as I get to Kings Cross on Friday I'm getting a Maccy D's. Nearest one to where I live is about 10 miles away, and I don't drive.

    I think there's a white poppy that is a more neutral and pacifist symbol that non-Commonwealth countries are slowly adopting as a symbol of peace.

    That's if I remember correctly...
