Look, we managed to sign some real quality players this window in
Ba/Cabaye/Santon/Marveaux/Obertan who have all added to attacking quality.
Plus last season we still managed to push for the top 10 (though ultimately failing on the last day) with Lovenkrands, Ameobi and an injured Best!
I'm just as dissapointed that we didn't sign a striker but you just have to look at it realistically and understand that we're not going to get relegated or anything.
All we can do is blindly hope for something in January <ok>

edit: Plus we have Ben Arfa back in a few weeks! And we've seen the emergence of players like Vuckic and Sameobi who are only adding to quality in the team!

Still 2 players short for me I'm afraid bottom half again. Look promising after the Fulham game.

Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, West Ham last year, and us the year before that.

We should have signed a striker. Fact.
We shouldn't be needing to replace key members of our squad. Fact.

I'm pleased with how we've performed on the pitch this year and am cautiously optimistic after every game but so help me I am fed up of how we do off of it.

We are going to struggle when a ACN comes around and 2 of our 4 strikers are going to leave, which leaves us completely ****ed!

But it wouldn't surprise me if we get a striker on loan in the next 14 days (or so) just so MA and Co can appease the fans and re-assure us that they are committed to the club

But why are you suddenly saying this 3 games into the season?!
Things have literally only improved since Fulham with the addition of Santon, and I bet you weren't saying that when we got 3 points at SJP or the SOS?

Our situation hasn't got worse. It has merely stayed the same.

A good mate is a season ticket holder at West Ham and he really rates Demba Ba as a goalscorer. I think if he stays fit he could really push on here.

Exactly! This transfer window we've improved the majority of our first team and have adequate back up in midfield. I'm sure we'll be fine up to January, by when we can buy in some more cover in defence and a striker!
I certainly cannot see where all these miserable ****s are coming from saying we'll get relegated just because we didn't sign a striker! Liverpool last year were dreadful up until January and then massively improved and finished miles up the table! The final table isn't decided in August!

Like sending a mate out for milk.

He comes back after buying loads of random stuff but has forgotten the milk...

Why everyone acts as if Ba is an average striker is beyond me. If he stays fit, he'll score a respectable amount of goals for us this season - I'm excited about him now he's finished Ramadan.

That's part of the problem though - Stoke, Fulham and even Scumderland - the teams we're fighting with - have each made some improvements to their squad since then. Meanwhile we still don't even have 25 players to fill ours. I'll admit I'm really excited by Santon but it's not our end we've had the most trouble at this season, it's the other!
Like I said, I know we're playing well, but as always we try to scrape by with our pathetically sized squad, and I really thought we had at least one deal nailed on for today ¬_¬

So your happy that pardew said 100% we will get a striker, we have 40m to spend and 8 months to find one striker out of the 100 of footballers who would come to us? Half a season is alot of a season to go with basically 1 striker!

I feel people are trying to polish a turd.

No of course we're not happy with it, I'm just saying don't mix up your dissapointment at the lack of signings with a knee-jerk reaction that we're going to get relegated!

I'm not saying i'm happy that we didn't get a striker after it was promised, i'm just saying: there's no point moaning about this so early on in the season, when all sorts can happen. Sammy might turn out to be a new hero and bang in 10 or 15 goals, Ba could come good with his fair share, as could Best. There's no point writing off our chances of achieving anything so early on when so much can happen and when there is another half of a season which we might have a new striker for.
Who knows, if we'd signed a striker this window he might've turned out ****e, but i'm sure a lot people would be more happy with having someone who's been bought for 10 million than someone better for essentially free.

I guess it's just the optimist in me.

Bump, this thread needs to be at the top of the page, well said <applause>. There are so many overreactions here; we're all disappointed and pissed off but some people are making ridiculous statements. Our team is far better off than before the window, and are some of you forgetting the immense signing we made yesterday?

Our strikers aren't as dire as a lot of people are making out. Granted, Ameobi and Lovenkrands are ****, but Ba (now he's finished Ramadan) and Best can easily get us to safety, as well as Ben Arfa returning, and Sammy and Vuckic coming through. We still need a quality striker though

While I'm not as unhappy as some, I'm worried about the ACN consequences. Who are we going to lose? Tiote, Ba, Shola? Three big players to lose for quite a long time.

    There's also this about Santon:

    http://www.twackle.com/sitebar?url=...om/&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

(on the plus side, I think he just needs someone to show some faith in him, hopefully Pardew is the man).

I wonder how Pardew is feeling right now. He's probably pissed off and is wondering if he can be made to look even more wrong when he says stuff to the press. I don't really believe he is purely Ashley's mouthpiece, I'm sure he really wants to get his hands on the money that should be available, maybe we'll get some in the January transfer window, let's hope it isn't too late.

    But I'm happy with:

    Ba
    Cabaye
    Ben Arfa
    Gosling
    Abeid
    Marveaux
    Santon

    and Sammy!!

    Come on lads!

Edit: just realised I missed out Obertan and Vuckic.

I think after yesterday everyone was ecstatic and really thought the club would do a deal for a striker. And the big downer today has been magnified by that. We have had a decent summer that I am content with.
