I thought qualification was done on a head to head basis. Then BBC, including Seedorf, have been talking about how Germany aren't through yet and Netherlands are out. So I assumed head to head did not count. Then they gave a run down of the rules, saying head to head IS used. So they've been getting their facts wrong all tournament, and are continuing to do so by saying that if Czech Republic draw and Greece win, Greece will go through, which they won't as they will both be on 4 points, and Greece lost to Czech.

    Clear as mud as per!

I naturally assumed goal difference THEN head to head, is this not the case??

That's what I assumed it must be, but prior to the Poland game there they just went through it and told us that it is head to head FIRST. Terrible clarity.

That changes quite a lot then, don't it!

Doesn't that put Holland out, as they've lost to 2 teams already on 3 points??

I've just tweeted that to Gary Lineker haha, and it would put Germany through. They've got something wrong, either it isn't head to head after all or al these teams they think are in/out really aren't.

If Greece win, Russia will also be on 4 points, Russia beat Czech Republic 4 - 1.

Ahh good call, but then who will go through? All will be on 4 points, Greece beat Russia, Russia beat Czech, Czech beat Greece. So confusing.

Must do but how bad would you feel if you were led to believe the tournament was based on head to head, then someone you finish level on points with AND BEAT goes through at your expense <laugh>. What a stupid rule head to head is.

Goal difference should always be the decider, it's the correct way!

Then goals scored, ten head to head.

It's the way it is! Or should be!

BBC now showing Greece ahead of Russia, which means head to head IS being used. Meaning Germany ARE through. But Netherlands aren't quite out, if they beat Portugal and Germany beat Denmark, 3 teams will be on 3 points. All beat each other, so presumably that would be down to goal difference.

By my sums on that group, if Holland win by 2, and Germany beat Denmark by one, wouldn't they all also be on 0 GD?

Portugal I assume would go through on goals scored, unless Holland beat them 4-2?

    WTF!?

If Germany beat Denmark then Denmark would be on - GD (they are on 0 now)

If Holland beat Portugal by 2 goals, Holland will be on 0 Portugal on -2

It may be head to head but how can you seperate them on that, Holland Beat Portugal, Portugal beat Denmark, Denmark beat Holland. so its impossible, so it will have to go to GD. Holland will have 0 Portugal -2 and Denmark - something.

    Germany 9 + something
    Holland 3 0 GD
    Portugal 3 -2 GD
    Denmark 3 - something

Not sure what happens if Holland win by 1 goal though as they will both have -1 GD, so maybe then it goes to goals scored.

It was looking similar tonight with Russia beating Czech who beat Greece who beat Russia. In that scenario, head to head is invalidated. If GD and GS are the same aswell, the highest teams in the FIFA ranking go through which is absolutely crazy <laugh>

They should have a royal rumble style fight in the centre circle to decide it, that'd be great entertainment.

Portugal would be ****ed, the bunch of fannies.

<laugh> Last man left in the centre circle sends his team to the quarters.

    Aye.

Be a tough call mind, some tough guys in there, I reckon Ron Vlaar of Holland would be in the mix, probably with Mats Hummels.

Well its the same with Germany going through as well.

    Denmark beat Germany
    Portugal beat Holland

3 teams on 6 points and all beat each other Denmark beat Germany, Portugal beat Denmark, Germany beat Portugal.

I still think it wont matter at all though

    Germany 9
    Portugal 6
    Denmark 3
    Holland 0

(before it all started I would not have said that, Holland would have won 2 by now, but as they have lost 2, I just cant see them getting through (or it would be a travesty if they do)).

    it goes by:
    Points
    Head To Head
    Goal Difference
    Goals Scored
    FIFA Ranking
    Draw of Lots

Head to Head is cancelled if all three sides beat each other.

Holland are def through if they win by 2 (unless Denmark get a point) because Denmark's goal dif would be -

If Portugal and Denmark both win it gets very messy!!
