SSN reported Chelsea have submitted a bid for Battersea Power Station as site for new stadium. Apparently there is other interest in the site...
I think there is enough room inside for a pitch. They could then build stands outside and cover the outer walls of the power station with giant screens so everyone can see what's going on inside. To create atmosphere inside they will pipe in crowd noise from outside.
Good old Chelsea! Roman wants to make them even more plastic then i first thought. Long gone are the old Chelsea and in with the new. No wonder half their fans dont look at us as a derby? Good luck to that one? "according to surveys carried out by the Sport+Markt consultancy, 90 per cent of English fans of Chelsea in 2006 had not supported the club in 2003." Says it all!
The club has to move, most people accept that. We're fortunate in that we have a generous owner willing to invest and secure our long-term future. It's the way our rivals West Ham and Tottenham are going and the way Arsenal have already gone so we can't afford to fall behind. Most of the older Chelsea fans will be sad to leave but accept we have to move.
DL agree but it will be a sad day because Chelsea are SB. Nothing against you old Chelsea boys in fact 2 of my closest mates are old School Chelsea. It's just these new breed i dont like. <OK> And someone willing to forget the history of a club.
Not enough room inside the old power station for a football pitch, the building is listed and planning permission has already been refused for developers who wanted to remove the four chimneys. There is a large amount of land to the south of the building but if you look at the map I am not so sure it is big enough for a 60-80,000 stadium unless they can knock the old power station down which won't happen unless Roman bribes the Tories in Wandsworth to put the scheme through. It was going to be the site for Euro-Disney at one point so fitting that a Mickey Mouse club like Chelsea want to move in!
I agree Ellers and feel the same way about the new breed of fan, those that used to stand on the Shed say it's nothing like how it used to be before it was renovated anyway. As you say it's infuriating listening to CFC fans from say Bangalore say we have to move despite having no real connection to the club. A close family friend of mine grew up in Fulham and I have memories of going there and walking past the Bridge on the way by so I'd be devastated if we moved even though Battersea is actually closer to me than the Bridge is.
There will very mixed emotions if/ when we leave LR. On the one hand it's an embarrassment in terms of facilities, comfort and commercially a millstone for capacity. On the other there are the memories and the atmosphere which will be very hard to replicate. I am absolutely convinced that the crowd has got us at least 6 points this year. I sympathise DL.
I've always said I feel if your club is to match the owners ambitions you will have to leave LR, a great shame as like the Cottage it's one of the few old fashioned grounds left. It's only really this season Arsenal have finally settled at the Emirates. They really struggled when they left Highbury at first so I see your point.
Even though i don't really like the New Chelsea brand of things. It will a shame if they do leave SB. I like the ground and think its a good size and close to the pitch but if the owners want bigger better then so be it. As for us LR is too small and facilities are poor. We cannot re develope and if we stay in the H&F area i would welcome a new Ground. For me it must be the BBC site.
It will be a huge loss for the local shops and businesses many of whom are on the brink. On match day those places are probably making 100 times more than they do on a non-match day. Sadly Football is no longer a sport it's a business and I think any club that has realistic ambitions will have to go along the same route. City had to leave Maine Road, Sunderland had to leave Roker Park, Derby had to leave the Baseball Ground. Hull had to leave Boothferry Park. Spurs are trying to leave WHL, West Ham are trying to leave Upton Park. If you want to compete amongst the best like I'm sure the owners want for QPR, you have to facilitate improvement (increase of fans, playing staff, facilities etc)
im all for it, i could walk to it from my door, and the building needs a purpose, too impressive to not have something in it. Also some more development there would add some more value to my flat alongside the new american embassy next to it! Good up and coming area is our battersea!
