HTR, if 1m is the best we'll get then there's no deal isn't there as we've already rejected the 1m bid. As for getting over a cruciate injury, he's already got over one (in fact I think 2), so he's already proved that he can because he's still our best defender. The risk factor doesn't effect Boro, thats Swansea's worry if they buy him. That shouldn't effect Boro's valuation of him either. As for not tieing him down to a contract its because he's still on premiership wages, if Swansea come back down next year then you probably couldn't afford him either! You can say diddums all you want mate but that doesn't change the fact that your manager is fannying around about buying Bates, surely if he wants him then pay the price otherwise find another target. We have to to then fk about trying to find a replacement for him with 13 days left to do it!

The difference with us is that should we get relegated no player will be on premier wages, they will be on championship money, the swans don't reward failure and we certainly don't act completely stupid by allowing players to be on premier wages, we leave that to clubs like hull and yours if true.

If players want an incentive to stay up, it's in the wallet with us!

Tried to read all the posts on this thread but after Viking Eric's post I somehow lost interest in the rest and my throat went sort of dry.

Tbf we were an established premier league side at the time. Players didn't have that in their contracts at the time.

I realise that, but contracts have clauses put in to reduce wages upon relegation, that is why our previous keeper left apparently he wanted to keep premier league wages if we went down, he went to wolves as a number, go figure ?

We have probably lost targets because of it, but I said elsewhere I would rather relegation than risking my club, we went into to a cva 8 years ago never do I want it to happen again! Our club is more important than enriching pampered football players, we want a future beyond this season!

Not our problem, sorry. You are being naive in the extreme if you think that what we've offered is unusual. Other clubs have done it to us (derisory offers for Bodde from Derby for example), so you might not like it, just like we didn't at the time, but it's the norm sadly. Our Manager has a duty to our Club, not yours. It's not his money he's spending is it? If he waded in with an inflated bid he'd be failing in that duty.

The fact remains that the guy has had a serious injury that may recur. It's not unusual. He only has a year left on his contract. We can argue all day about what the fair price is but I suspect it'll prove to be nearer our estimation than yours. I can see why you're cheesed off at the prospect of losing a key player but from our point of view you can't expect us to care. No offence. Just as you only care about your Club, we only care about ours. It's just a question of perspective.

My sentiments also , and I would be surprised if any sensible Jacks had anything other than the same opinion.

That's why we we right all along to call DDV bluff. The club and its' stability is far more important that any player or player(s)

I don't see the problem. You don't have to accept the bid if you think it's too low. You have no hope of getting £3m for a player with 1 year left. We'll take him for free next season instead. If you think he's worth £3m to you for one season then you are completely nuts. You'll bankrupt the club if you're willing to pay £3m/player/season.

what bid would they of offered for pratley if they went for him last season to start off with say 1 mill and try the swans hand very shrewd i think of HJ as mowbray has come out from what i can gather and said that they will sell but not for as litttle as 1 mill so now do we go in with 1/2 mill extra i say yes and then see what response we get, not derisory at all what if they had said yes to a mill and we had just gone in with 2mill they would of been calling us mugs then for paying over the odds

I agree. And I'm sure that will be the case with our club now.

We bought Ash for £400k, Taylor for £100k and Rangel for about £250k - and that's including all the extra clauses. We bid low and keep well within our means to get the best deal for our club. Not about to apologise for it and if you're club doesn't like it (or Bates), then they can simply say no and we'll move onto another target.

To be honest I'm not even sure who this guy is except what we've heard this week and none of it really makes me think we'll top £2m. Buck bid around that for Camp, Forest wanted £3m so we went and got Vorm for around £1.5m - great business and if similar happens with Bates then I'll be very happy.

I'm glad that Buck and the Board keep the club moving forward in all aspects, and without spending money we can't afford.!

Fine, we'll settle for 5 mil + Lita back.

It's all been quiet on the Bates front recently.. apparently both sides can't agree a fee? Do you reckon you'll improve your bid for Bates or look elsewhere?
