Bassong

Discussion in 'Tottenham Hotspur' started by Heavy Metal Toon, Aug 11, 2011.

  1. Since Enrique is most likely off now, would you accept 5 million for Bassong?

We need a full back, and you're looking to get rid so hopefully 'arry and Levi wont be silly and ask for 10 million for him.

    Would you accept 5m?

No. We're pretty light in defence at the moment...

Doubt it. He wants more football and he's going to get it this season so I can't see us selling him cut price.

I wouldn't accept £5m, Bassong's not really a left-back and there are rumours that he's part of a deal for Samba from Blackburn.

You can have Alan Hutton for that, though!

Did he play full back when he was with you last time?

You can have Hutton for £5m, or you can gamble and loan in Adam Smith until January.

The problem is that we need to try and get a settled back line. It's one of those areas where rotation has to be handled very carefully (like forward partnerships) in order to promote good understanding between the players. By playing King and Gallas, when they're fit (the best CBs we have IMO), we're not allowing a decent long-term CB partnership to develop. Irony?

At a guess, I get the feeling the centre back pairings next season will be:
    BIG GAMES - King/Gallas & Dawson
MOST GAMES - Dawson & Gallas
    EUROPA LEAGUE/CARLING CUP GAMES - Dawson & Kaboul/Bassong
EUROPA LEAGUE DEAD RUBBERS - Kaboul & Bassong

With the inevitibility of injuries and suspensions, having Daws as a constant presence is common sense, but we do need to utilise Kaboul and Bassong more because we can't rely on King and/or Gallas for too long, and need players we can be confident can fill in for a few games at a time.
