Was wondering why he ended up at Wolves when he was obviously available for purchase or loan. I really thought that we would go in for him if we did not get Samba. It will be interesting to see how he performs today against Cisse and Zamora, and for the remainder of the season. He could be one that got away!!!. Was also thinking that MH, TF and the board will now have a few months to prepare for the summer. I think we will have quite a large clear-out but realistically we will prob only purchase 4-5 more players. Looking at pretty big clubs like Everton and Villa you can see that they can roughly afford 3-4 top earners say 50+ grand, another 3-4 earning around 40+grand and the rest on averaging around 20+grand. We won't be at there level for many years. Considering that a few of our players are already in the top earners bracket i think that we will be buying several players in the lower wage brackets. I can't see us buying to many if any at all top wage earners. Lets be honest, we can't afford it. Thoughts!
I think it's a question of if we stay up. Yes and there'll be a big clear-out of the deadwood and the summer freebies and cheapos. No and there'll be a different perspective and most of them will be retained...
Haven't seen Bassong play much at all but according to some fans on this board, he is rubbish (which is good to hear). Agree with eamon, have a feeling samba will join in the summer if we stay up.
The odd appearance Bassong has made this season he hasn't looked too good, Wolves are tailor-made for him...
I think it was possibly the wage bill that decided that he didn't come. My thinking is Onouha will make Ferdinand/Gabbidon better defenders when they play along side him. So Bassong wasn't absolutely necessary, maybe in the summer as you say, when a lot will be off the wage bill. But still think Samba will come in the summer, he wants to be back with MH who signed him for Blackburn for £400,000.
I'm with Eamon on this one. Samba made it clear that he wanted to join us and Hughes, to the point where 'Arry said he wasn't going to bother because he wanted to come to us. You have to feel sorry for him, I just hope he knuckles down and doesn't do a Tevez.
