    According to french magazine So Foot, he said this;

"Frankly, Ousmane(Dabo) is a little pussy."

I really can't imagine Joey talking to a journalist like this, and can't help but feel that it is more **** mongering from the same magazine that used false quotes from Jose.

They're all getting in on the act. Joey is big news all over the football world and they all want a piece of him. They'll talk any garbage they can come up with. Gutter Press!

"Frankly, Ousmane(Dabo) is a little pussy." Why would Joey even think of commenting on this?

I was going to say, is this not the same magazine that misqouted Jose.

Unless it's something negative aboutBarton they don't print it!!!!!

"Of course, it was not the best response, but I grew up in the street and when I am attacked, I defend myself and when you fight, there are no rules"

    "Humans defend themselves, no?"

"But he comes to me and slap. What does he expect? That I say no problem, I forgive you?"

These are not the words of an English as a first language speaker

In written English, it's poor. However, in spoken English, it's very plausible.

    "Humans defend themselves, no ?"

I am sorry but no English speaker uses that construction. It is classic French, Spanish and Italian construction but English people don't speak like that. Try it yourself. Throw a negative question into a conversation and end it with "no ?" instead of "right ?" or "innit ?". People will look at you like you're mad.

I agree. Read through this and struggled to imagine Barton saying it. We've all heard him be interviewed and actually sounds like quite an intelligent lad. Compared with most footballers he is very coherent and can actually string a sentence together. This interview is either fake or paraphrased.

It is comments like these that get Barton into trouble. I am hopeful that he has been misquoted but he shouldn't be speaking to French magazines in the first place.

well in an interview with a french magazine surely they would have translated what barton said into french, then the english press would have translated the interview back which leaves a lot open to interpretation. Of course the English media have far too much integrity to purposely make it sound as bad as possible <whistle>

Yeah the multiple translations are clear, for example "I am not a whore" being used to say he isn't weak/scared to fight.

Bablefish isn't a very good translation tool ;)

    English to French:

"But he comes to me and slap. What does he expect? That I say no problem, I forgive you?"

    Becomes

"Mais il vient à moi et à la claque. Qu'attend-il ? Que je ne dis aucun problème, je pardonnez-vous ?"

    Translated back into English:

"But it comes to me and the snap. Qu' does it wait? What I don't you say any problem, I forgive?"

Why would he be speaking to a french magazine about things like this anyway? A magazine that is known for printing ****.

He'd speak to an English one. I reckon its all bollocks.

To be fair, he is Scouse, so it's hard enough for the English press to translate what he says.
