Plus MoN talks all things Catts and Sess MARTIN OâNeill is counting no chickens ahead of next weekâs FA Cup quarter-final replay against Everton. But he admits thereâs no getting away from the fact that the Black Catsâ hopes will be boosted by the returns to selection of Stephane Sessegnon and Lee Cattermole. Both picked up bans in the Newcastle derby earlier this month, but Sessegnon is due to return this Saturday in the Premier League game against Queens Park Rangers while Cattermole is available for the Everton game three days later. âSteph and Lee are major players for us,â OâNeill conceded. âThe two of them have done exceptionally well for us over the last couple of months and it will be great for us when theyâre available again. âCattermole has been inspirational as a leader to us. âPeople may point out he has missed a few games for us with suspensions, but, actually, I worry about what he does after the game rather than during it! âThen again, he was in the dressing room before the game against Everton â he was as determined as enthusiastic as everyone, trying to drive the players on. âHeâs been terrific as a leader and it surprised me that he was as young as 23. âTaking that into account, too, heâs done very well for us. âAnd so has Sessegnon. âTheyâre key players for us and weâre better with them in the side.â Whatever happens for the replay, OâNeill â who could miss Phil Bardsley for tomorrowâs trip to Blackburn â appreciates that Sunderland are now in the business end of the season and need to make the most of their squad. He said: âWe have Phil Bardsley, who may be a real doubt for Blackburn now. We had Kieran Richardson who we hoped would be available for Everton but who had a setback. âSo, at this stage of the season, you have to look at those injury issues first when you look at who you might or might not select.â
Well if Bardo is out its a simple choice for me at Blackburn.. MIG GARDNER..TURNER..OSHEA..BRIDGE LARSSON..COLEBACK..VAUGHAN..MCLEAN CAMPBELL..BENDY Maybe not my choice but I think it will be Marty's and he has done OK so far without following my advice
I wonder if bardo is out will the greek lad get his chance with O'shea moving to right back? I know O'shea is woeful there but i suppose its an option.
i dont think gardner will be put right back again he's been playing well in centre mid, so i would say elmo/killa at right back then you can keep the rest of the team the same and there is only one player being swapped around...
