Not only Serbia though is it ?

Chuck in Poland, Russia, Ukraine, and all the ex Soviet bloc countries and those making up the former Yugoslavia, plus the likes of Italy.

Banning them for 5 years from all international competition oughts to sort the problem out for every proven case. Its the only way

Unfortunately both FIFA and UEFA are gutless ****s and aside from a fine will do precisely **** all that will make any difference.

A 5 year or even 10 year ban would make little difference, racism is in their DNA. They simply don't live in a mixed race society like most of Western Europe and have a completely different perception.

Watched England for years and if FA's have to be punished for their countries social problems it should have started with England from around 1976 with a ban and only ended about 2004. Best way to deal with it is not to ban but to play more games because in some of the countries mentioned they are only a few years really out of revolutions and have tiny %s of resident peoplenot a born and bred nationals.

****e used to be lots of racism at England games and in scandanavia societies change over time. Good case is Poland unrecognisable to the country it was ten years back and in another ten years time it will be much different again.

That was a war. Missed the point about other countries changing mind. Countries had to call out the army for England matches for a mere game of football. Go through the alphabet and find a european city England did not riot at or cause serious trouble start with Amsterdam bratisalava brussells copenhagen dublin might as well stop there. England have come along way as well , societies change.

Disgraceful way to behave to one's fellow humans. Some of the European countries that came out of oppression into free democracy have yet to understand what freedom is.
We can preach to them, fine them, ban them but in the end the only way appears to be to replicate what happened in places like Northern Ireland.
Colin Murray of Match of the Day 2 recently made the point that the only way to silence the bigots there was for the silent majority to "out shout" them again and again.
It is up to all decent people of all nations to do the same when the racist and religious minority try to frighten or bully the rest of us into their way of thinking.
We have all come a long way since the second war and it has not been easy. But while we need to continue the process especially with regard to the ex Soviet block countries, one only has to see black players representing all of the Western European nations to see how far we have come.
Democratic, Religious and Racial tolerance does take time.

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH - this is the sound coming from UEFA - silence

Platini was at the Tottenham v Lazio game - actually at the game - has he done anything about it?? (No is the answer)

The Serbs will get a £20k fine - apparently in UEFA's world it's a worse crime to wear advertising on your underwear

Serbia should be banned from one round of international competition - senior and youth levels

Does not help Karadic's case does it - arguably Serbia showing it's true colours??

We should field Danny Rose in the next game, and if they hold our punishment without dishing out significant punishment to Serbia then we should withdraw from the U21 Euro's and send the U21's out on tour instead.

What you can hear is the pious sound of hypocrisy.

Using logic displayed here most of the football league should have been shut down for part of the seventies and eighties. A particular offender was the dear old Tote across town. Anybody who does not believe it have a cursory read of Chris Browns book Bovver. In black and white the Bristol Rovers fan narrates clearly his unease at the racism displayed by Bristol Rovers supporters, and their link to the far right NF.

Thankfully that died out during the 80's but unfortunately resurfaced across town in the late 80's early 90's. Anyone remember the stay out the East End banners associated with far right groups?

http://www.fss.rs/sr/news/newsArchive/story/4828/Public statement of the FA of Serbia.html

Here's a choice quote from the Serbian FA press release, which UEFA have apparently accepted:

    Absolutely disgusting.

Our FA need to show some balls here - Serbia just trying to deflect things - we need to be strong in our condemnation of what happened and demand action

I'm sorry that Wurzel Loyal thinks I am pious and hypocritical.
I detest any type of abuse be it racial, religious, political, sexual and any other you can think of.
UEFA can throw the Serbians out of competition and/or fine them but that will not in itself solve the problem.

Look at newsreels of European countries during and just after the Second World War. Apart from American and Gurkha soldiers, do you see any faces other than white people?
In the 50's there was only one Black player in the whole Football League - Charlie Williams of Doncaster Rovers who later became a well know comedian.

Now today visit any major city in northern Europe and you will see a mix of people with so many different origins, creeds and colours of skin. Did anyone in Germany, Sweden, Britain, France, Holland, Italy etc during 1945, believe that a BLACK player would ever play football or any other sport for their national team?

It has taken Europe 70 years to reach where we are today since that evil time when people were put to death simply because of their religion and race. That is not complacency but a fact.
Have we moved far enough? No.
Just a few inches along the road to decency where the human race will live in harmony together regradless of a persons origins. Democracy and decency never comes cheaply or easily but the good guys must keep on trying.

I agree [I think] with you. If England were not turned into europes pariah football nation neither should Serbia.

I would not have agreed with the closure of the English football league for twenty five years due to the racism of some of its team’s followers, similarly I would not have thought the racism and xenophobia of some England fans would necessitate the removal of its national team from all friendly and competitive matches for an even longer period.

I would again not been in favour of England not being used as a venue for Euro 96 after sectarian England supporters caused the abandonment of a friendly in Dublin in 95.

I do feel nations like Poland and Slovakia which have experienced similar problems to English football, although not as acute, well-travelled and of such longevity should have been used for tournaments at under 21 and full international level.

So I feel it is hard to hold a contrary view away from the more contact Serbian football gets with the outside world the better.

    No.

Maybe if you increase the font size to a metre high you will get the response you were looking for.
