Last season was not easy for Sagna and was probably his worst in an Arsenal shirt, but by the end of that season he showed us something new and something not many of us expected. He provided us with another option by being able to play as a CB and his performance against Sunderland was nothing short of brilliant and was one of the best performances by any Arsenal player that season. This season he has again proved his versatility and is like a new player in many aspects. But, he is on his last year at Arsenal and losing him on a free next year is going to be disappointing. Jenkinson has plenty of room for development and for me Sagna is the perfect mentor for a guy like him. For me this one is surely straight forward, we have to offer him a new and improved contract.

Yeah, we have to secure him for at least another couple of seasons. He is easily one of my favourite players at the club right now. 2-3 more seasons then Jenko will be ready plus he provides another option at CB. I hope Arsene changes his stance and doesn't offer him a 1 year deal.

Hopefully we do not dither about and get this sorted quickly. Because in January, Sagna can start to talk to other clubs.

I can think of at least 5 right backs in the PL who are better than Sagna <whistle>

Give the guy a 2 year contract, don't see the issue, the guy is over 30, but is still quality, and is finding his feet at CB.

I'd give him a 3 year contract, even if his legs start going, he could be good for team morale, because he's a top pro.

I hope we offer him a 2-3 year contract. He has been one of the best in the league for years and is a good player to have around the squad even if after another season or so he isn't as good at RB. I think he will make a decent CB as well.

I predicted he'd become a CB. It's sure nice to be right <whistle>

Anyway, I think one of the most underrated full backs in the league is Seamus Coleman (Everton). What about getting him to compete with Jenks?

Think you can upgrade tbh. He's not bad, and provides you with some flair from defence. But he's a liability sometimes (sorry but the goal for us [Liverpool] comes to mind) and you need to improve your defence. You no longer need attacking prowess from the wing backs because of your midfield strength. However if Sagna is the stand out defender then the rest of your back four look bad too.

Some upcoming teams around Europe could have the next star. Most would definitely join you as well. I wouldn't be too surprised to see your back 4 improved a lot.

Proves you don't read. Who said Sagna is a stand out defender? Kos is that at the moment. Sagna is a solid defender and a top pro who is a good role model for the younger players at the club.

I don't agree with club policy for giving players near 30 or in their early 30s a year contract. Not only is it insulting but it also demotivates the player to sign a new contract. We should now keep our experienced players for longer, which will not only help on the field but in the dressing room. Sagna has consistently been one of our best players for years, he deserves a 3 year contract.

Spot on. I've not seen many players like him play at such a disciplined and professional manner in the Prem. Hardly ever see him step out of line, play dirty or say anything controversial. Very good role model.
