Do any of you think its ridiculous that the away goals rule counts in extra time? Rule should be removed, certainly from extra time imo. No disrespect to Spurs, congrats on progressing, but they had a clear advantage with having an extra 30 mins to score an away goal than Inter did. End of 90 and they were both tied on away goals rule, having played 90 mins at each ground. How is it fair that Spurs goals count for more than Inters goals in extra time? A goal is a goal at the end of the day. Having drawn extra time 1-1, I would definitely feel aggrieved if I was an Inter fan.
Surely that just balances out the fact that Inter have a clear advantage as they get to play an extra 30 minutes at home? That, imo, is a bigger advantage - just look at how Spurs and Inter dominated their respective home legs in normal time. Personally I'm not a big fan of the away goals rule in general - seems to encourage a very cagey first leg where the home team places too much emphasis on not conceding. Tho' I suppose without the rule you would just end up with the opposite situation with the away team focusing on not conceding rather than trying for the away goal.
I agree, makes total sense to remove away goals counting extra during extra time. Yes it is an advantage to be playing at home, but it doesn't come close to being as influential as the away goals rule. Obviously Sepp Blatter will disagree with the common sense option though
Away goals do make ties interesting but they should end at the end of normal time. Without away goals rule would probably end up with more exciting matches though as more matches are likely to go to extra time/pens.
Agree and 30 minutes of an advantage at the end of 90 when everyone's knackered just increases the chance of getting that goal. away goals are so important and they knew that and failed to get one at WHL though.
away goals after extra time should not be allowed because it is unfair that one team gets 90 minutes to score away goal and the other gets 120 minutes to score vital away goals. tbh i never been a fan of away goals rules.
Yeah better to go out on penalties that to an away goal scored in the 2nd leg extra time. I remember the Golden Goal.. was meant to solve all this nonsense, it didn't change anything, both teams always played same as if the rule did not exist, no one wants to concede a goal in extra time golden goal or not. Kuntz!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
Have to agree with Swarbs. Scrapping the away goals would mean dull games, especially Inter. How they managed to score 4 at home and none at Spurs shows how hard is it to be positive and score an away goal, which Spurs did and congrats to them. Milan, too were useless at Barca and vice versa. Rule is simple, just outscore your opponent and you win, encourages teams to attack more.
