Well thats been coming for a while. Luckily Adkins is not fashionable or high-profile enough for Abramovich and Chelsea (fingers crossed). I would have thought that the only teams that would want Adkins are lower Prem teams that have less resources and ambition than we do anyway.

Shame Cole,Lampard etc all acting like spoilt kids, costing the manager his job. Player power wins again.

The players should be ashamed. Many of them have big egos but are too old to perform at the top level. Drogba, Lampard, Cole, Essien (maybe good enough still), Malouda all passed their prime. Shame AVB couldn't get rid of them all.

It's a shame. AVB showed at Porto how talented he is, but with Roman and the egos of Chelsea around the job was too much too fast for him. I have full faith he'll settle into big club management somewhere else.

Unlike AVB, I don't think any incoming Chelsea manager would accept the caveat of a minimum of a 4th place finish, what with the state that teams in. Besides Wenger and certainly Dalglish don't have that demand from their chairman this season.

It would be interesting if English clubs fail perform again next season in the CL and the Italians do, will there then be only be 3 CL places available for the current "Big Six"?

Unless you are Mourinho, whoever takes that job is clearly on a hiding for nothing

Heh, di Matteo certainly has his work cut out for him...comes in and within the first twenty days has an FA cup replay, second leg of the CL knockouts, Man City and Tottenham.

Crazy decision! How much has that cost the club? Should have just written this season off, rebuilt in the summer and seen what he can do with a competitive squad.

They might as well do away with the manager and put a players collective in charge Cole/lampard/terry/drogba could then decided amongst themselves who get the other 7 starting places.

Just goes to prove "money can't buy you class"

Lost the dressing room, but what kind of player doesn't give his best out of sheer pride. Bunch of fancy dans, the lot of them. AVB looked smaller and smaller every time he was interviewed..hope he has better luck in his next job.

£28M to sack Carlo & hire young AVB. What a waste, they could have just given that money to pompey to keep them afloat for six months!
