Robert got 32 assists and is one of the best free kick takers the premier league has ever seen. I know who's I'd be picking that's for sure and it isn't max
Difficult to compare them as they were alongside different players, in different systems, with different managers etc. Would Robert thrive in the current team? Not sure he would work hard enough off the ball. But equally the game has changed a lot In 20 years. Would ASM have looked better in a more creative side, alongside the likes of Shearer, Nobby, Speed, etc. all helping to develop his game? Maybe. Or maybe he'd look too selfish with other quality players around him that he should be setting up. We'll never know! There will be a difference of opinions, but it's all just guesswork and based on personal views. You can't compare them 'like for like'. We 'might' get to see is ASM can up his game is a better quality team from next season, if given the chance. Then we might have something better to base a comparison on.
All max is good at is dribbling.. He has litterally no end product and doesn't defend. Robert has everything for an attacking winger. Goals assists and scored freekicks Max is a wasteman in comparison
Haha aye I remember that. Good times. Sourness started the rot ousting Bellamy and Robert Robert had 11 goals the year sourness got rid.
No no no. He was exquisitely talented, but had a massive attitude problem and went missing for large amounts of the game and large amounts of the season. In 02/03 he was unstoppable, but never reached those heights again, in the same way HBA never reached the heights of 11/12 again. If he was one of the best free kick takers the Prem has ever seen, then he'd have scored a hell of a lot more from free kicks!
He has more than 1 good season tbf he had 3 solid seasons and is no1 with his conversion rate on free kicks. Think its 50% Anyway there's no doubt defensively he wasn't poor just like max but robert had much more end product than max. I doubt max will ever get 32 assists.
Direct comparisons are hard to make as they are very different players - ASM takes on players, moves the ball upfield and gets into the box, Robert was all about set pieces and crosses. One thing that is glaringly different is the attitude - ASM always wants to lift the team and a lot of the time drags the team up by himself, Robert was frequently a passenger and never did any defensive work or graft and frequently went missing when we needed him, he was helped massively by having a very strong team around him.
Robert was a good finisher in comparison and was a more effective player and im not sure max has a great attitude because he seems unfit most the time and rolls around pretending to be injured alot. Max is a better dribbler, but Robert was just better at everything else. We'll have to agree to disagree you're entitled to your opinion at the end of the day. That's why football is a great thing to debate.
Attitude is key for me, and Robert's stunk a lot of time, he spent the whole of his last season here sulking and putting in zero effort.... yes him and Souness clearly clashed, but he still should have made the effort on the pitch. Wherever I see interviews with ASM he seems massively dedicated to the team and club, always trying to lift spirits, and a great presence in the dressing room and around the other players. 2 very talented players, and very different players, but one with a far better attitude than the other.
In is last season he was top scorer under sourness. Sourness replaced him with Albert luque now that was a downgrade. I'm really not seeing a great attitude from max on the pitch I must be watching a different player.
What? No he wasn't, he got 5 goals in that last season under Souness and Shearer got 19. He was never our top scorer; he got 12 in the previous season (his best season for us), but even then Shearer got far more than him. Souness has distanced himself from the Luque signing and said it was Sheppard who forced it through and he wanted Anelka....but still Souness has to take the blame for Robert's departure as he clearly wanted rid of him.
Perhaps im recalling the previous season I do remember him playing well and showing his underpants though.. Roberts crosses to Shearer were a big strength for a good few years. If max gets more than 22 goals and 32 assists ill reconsider, but right now he's about 10 of each and he's already nion 3 years in I think. Robert was just a far more productive player and its the assists Max just doesn't provide, but as I said you'll have to agree to disagree on this one mate
Wilson is top scorer with 6, ASM is second with 5. The Robert and Ginola comparisons need to stop as both were luxury players who were supported by a hard working team, whereas ASM is all about hard work himself.
May I remind you all ASM has covered more ground than anyone else in the premier league besides Declan Rice. He works hard, he just can't defend for ****.
With a whipping 5 goals and 3 assists? Let me know when he has more than 23 goals and 34 assists. He has no end product and can't do anything other than dribble Robert Cross yes Free kicks yes Finish yes Pass yes Dribble no Header no Defend no Max Cross no Free kicks no Finish no Pass no Dribble yes Header no Defend no Header no
Covered ground lol All he does is dribble that's why... He's isn't defending like almiron used to. I like max he's great to watch but I'm not blind to his failings
