Princess - what sort of ground are we likely to have for the Guineas at the weekend? Sporting Life currently showing soft and the BBC weather forecast is for light rain Tuesday and Friday. I seem to remember that the Rowley Mile dries out pretty rapidly - should we be looking at Good with maybe a bit of Good-soft?

Those connections fearing testing conditions for the Guineas meeting at Newmarket this weekend received good news from director of racing and clerk of the course Michael Prosser on Sunday.

He said on Sunday: "We've had two and a half inches of rain since the Friday after the Craven meeting, including 17mm in the last 24 hours, and there's more to come today, but Monday is going to be beautiful and though we could get another 6mm to 8mm of rain into Tuesday morning it's then due to settle down for the rest of the week.

"We will be racing on fresh ground saved specifically for the Guineas, and knowing how well the Rowley Mile drains and with grass growth so strong we could be back to good to soft by the end of Monday and then, if the forecast is correct, heading towards good ground by Saturday."

Well done Oddy. I thought we were going to have an empty month.

Morning all! I see Zenyatta got in first with Michael Prosser's statement.

I can report that it stopped raining here at about 5pm yesterday and so far today the weather has been glorious. I cannot see a cloud in the sky! We are due some more rain tomorrow morning and then showers until the weekend. Knowing how fast Newmarket drains, I'd say there will be decent ground come the weekend.
