He's linked with a return to Spain about this time every season normally. Odd that an Atletico fan wouldn't be aware of that isnt it?. Even stranger is that the general media haven't trotted it out again yet...maybe bored of that 'story' now?. Last season it was the 'sick child' that was taking him back to Spain....perhaps thats the extent of the creativity that sports journalists have in the UK now?. The short answer is that he signed a new 5yr deal last summer that, it is assumed, made him the highest earner in the squad. On form he is the most technically skillful player in the squad, by some margin, and would be difficult to replace like for like for us. His fee would reflect the cost to buy him out of his sizeable contract and the cost of bringing in a replacement. Dont think Atletico have that kind of money on hand do they?.
They have a fair bit of money at the moment and according to the media most of the squad is being sold so we will have around £150 million apparently and we have a new sporting director who deals with transfers. The reason why I believe it this season rather than any other is because of this, beforehand all that happened is we scouted Brazil for some CM's and all of them turned out horribly
