I've been having a very good summer so far,but I can't wait for next sunday and the impending Premier League season. It's been nearly 4 months since Saints have played a competitive game and I can't wait until the season starts .Hopefully it will be a great season for our club. What are your views on the new season?Where do you think we'll finish?
I am both excited and very apprehensive about the new season and I think we'll finish bottom half but outside the relegation places, 16th, 17th or thereabouts. We have a tough start and I am not looking forward to the opening match at the Etihad, I have a feeling we might get rinsed. *dons tin hat, flame-proof jacket and runs for cover* But it'll be nice to see Saints back in action.
I think it'll be interesting because our last three seasons we've been aiming for promotion and now although Adkins wants to "win it", I think that as long as we finish outside the bottom three we've done well. I think we will finish better than we start, will be a danger at home and struggle away, score lots of goals but concede a lot too. There's about eight teams who could get relegated, and I don't think that we will be one of them. Swansea, Reading and Wigan for the drop. Saints to come 16th. Also, I think that as long as we stay up no star player will leave.
We will get a chance to watch the first game of the season tomorrow. You watch City, they play with no width. If we keep players wide we will do OK, Clyne and Guly will have a field day 2 against 1. But still hope they win as I really do not like the way Chelsea play
I really can´t wait now. I swear this has been the longest pre-season ever. Normally when there is the Euros or the World Cup then it seems to pass quicker, but not this year! I am worried that we won´t have our complete squad in place by next Saturday and considering that we are playing the champions away then it is a cause for concern because we are weak in a few areas. I thought we would have had a CB and winger in by now but I´m still optimistic to what We can achieve this season. I think we´ll finish 14th and we´ll cause a few upsets, especially at St Marys. I just hope that when we go through a rough patch, which we will, that Cortese doesn´t decide to give Adkins the boot. I think United will win the title and I think the 3 W´s will go down: Wigan, West ham and West Brom.
Ditto. Olympics has been great. Watching the absolute dedication and all or nothing attitude of the competitors has certainly not made me miss football at all. Can't even be arsed with the olympic football either as its out of place with the ethos of the Games. As a cricket lover too, have to say they should have stopped the cricket during the Olympics as although I love the sport, catching some of the England & Hampshire games on Sky in the last few weeks and the speed & energy of Olympic sport has made Cricket seem rather dull & tedious by comparison.
I am excited about our return to top flight, but the Olympics has been great and haven't had my normal longing for the season to start as I have been entertained elsewhere!
Not missing it at all tbh. We've had the Euros, the Olympics, I've had F1 filling the gaps too. Now the Olympics is winding down, it's only making me more excited the we start again next week
Not missing it since the Olympics started...last few weeks have been brilliant. Really have enjoyed the variety of sports to watch and am so pleased that our games have been a success. A bit apprehensive about season, but we have to keep our nerve if things start poorly (which they may). We want to win all matches of course, but I think it is most important that we win the winnable ones. Win the home games and beat the teams that may be our rivals for the drop. I think we will finish 2 or 3 places above the relegation and will only flirt with the relegation zone on a couple of occasions during the season.
Not missing it in the slighest. These Olympics can go on for much longer in my eyes. Don't want them to end.
The Olympics have enthused me and I thought I should do my bit for the legacy so I got my old bicycle out of the shed and dusted it down. The very lovely Mrs Godders oiled the chain and pumped up the tyres for me. She went back to her chores and I tried to mount the saddle when I realised I couldn't quite get my leg up high enough to go across the cross bar. I went back in the garage and got an old box to stand on which enabled me to get my leg over the cross bar. I settled myself into the saddle and was about to ride off when I realised I hadn't opened the front gate. I got off the bike, went down the driveway and opened the gate and walked back to the bike. I struggled back into the saddle and was about to ride off when I noticed the tyres had gone flat again. I called the very lovely Mrs. Godders from her ironing to come and pump up the tyres for me again. What she told me to do is unprintable on a thread like this which is read by so many young lads. Anyway as I was in the saddle I decided I would have a ride regardless of the flat tyres. I pushed down with all my weight on the pedal to get me off to a flying start when the chain snapped and the pedal shot round and caught me one hell of a painful knock in the shin. At the same time my walking stick which I had laid along the cross bar fell off and was caught by the opposite pedal which projected it up in the air such that the handle caught me across the nose which immediately started to bleed. At this point I fell off the bike and grazed my cheek on the gravel driveway. The very lovely Mrs Godders on hearing my cries of pain came rushing from the kitchen with her first aid box. She took one look at me and said "Goodness you are in a bigger mess than Pompey" and proceeded to clean up my cuts and bruises. When she finished she wheeled my bike out onto the pavement by the front gate and stuck a notice on it saying "free to a good home". It is still there this morning so no one has been tempted yet. So here I am settling down on the sofa with a bandage on my shin, a plaster on my nose and antiseptic cream all over my cheek settling down to watch the Olympics and typing away on my laptop. The very lovely Mrs. Godders last words to me before she went to church were "I shall be glad when the football season starts. It will hopefully keep you out of mischief."
Looks like a good read this. A nice picture of Reg, wearing the World Champion jersey. please log in to view this image
I've been inspired by the cycling too. I've taken positive action. I've been out in the garage, retrieved the old six speed racer, dusted her down, oiled her up and she's now on eBay.
There's a red wine spurt over the computer screen now..! And I was thinking of venturing into the shed to see how my old CIOCC is faring.
The rise and fall of Britains greatest cyclist! So he fell of his bike as well. Seems like I am in good company then.
View attachment 16807 I thought you would like to see a picture of a bike in slightly better condition than mine.
