Whoever the new manager is, I just hope 1)he plays players in their correct positions, 2)doesn’t have favourites that play every game no matter what & 3) at least tries to play attacking football

Right lets just get 3 out of peoples minds right now. Be nice if possible, sure granted.

While in an ideal world, I'd like 2003-05 BFJ liquid football.

Right now, I personally couldn't give a toss HOW we stay up, we simply HAVE to remain in this league.

What are people’s thoughts on Paul Lambert? I’m underwhelmed, to be honest. He was not even mentioned on here as a potential manager in the summer. I’m aware he’s got experience, but he’s been sacked from his last four jobs where he underperformed. Stoke got relegated on his watch last season too, with a big assist from Mark Hughes. I’ll get behind the new manager, regardless of who he is, but can’t shift the impression that we can do a lot better than this.

I'm hearing a few murmurs about Nathan Jones of Luton.

I'm going to assume looking at the odds, Lambert is an absolute certainty.

He was one of my initial favourites for the job in the summer, but at this stage, I honestly think we need proven Championship experience. A box which Lambert admittedly ticks. Jones has done very good things at Luton and, unlike Hurst, he has a widespread reputation of getting his teams to play good football.

Evans also talked to Ian Holloway and Tim Sherwood over last week, according to TWTD. So it could have been a lot worse.

Just got back into the country to this.
Evans had to decide whether to stick or twist.Let's hope this latest gamble pays off and whoever gets appointed can keep us up.

TWTD reporting it's a done deal with Lambert at Portman Road tying up the deal. So just when you think it can't get any worse, it does.

Evans needs to get out of our club.

NOW I understand what McCarthy meant when he said 'Be careful what you wish for.' He obviously saw this coming.

Hurst fell by his own sword. I think allowing Morris to go on loan was his biggest crime in my view, seemed to be a player that helped the front line tick. Not even being close to settling on a starting 11 didn't win any sympathy. Sad that it didn't work but don't think I'll miss him in the long term.

Lambert I'm underwhelmed by the thought, but experience of working with lower league players (what we have) and how the top two leagues are played in reality (what we need) so I can follow the logic. Shame he has the connections to Norwich, but ultimately why should that matter if he does the job.

Lambert did a great job for Norwich. I've always said we should have appointed him instead of Keane all those years ago. He was their George Burley getting a mix of experienced, young and lower league players to perform above their individual capabilities. The difference is, I don't think he's a particularly loyal person and I'm not sure given his Norwich connections it would take long for fans to turn should things go wrong. He hasn't done a great job anywhere since but he's been at clubs that have been quite turbulent behind the scenes. Mind you I'd much rather him than some of the other names mentioned.

    My choice would be Warburton

I don’t think you can compare Lambert and Burley. Mike Walker was their Burley.

Royle played for Norwich and we all backed him, so if it's Lambert or whoever it is lets get behind them to get us out of this disastrous position we are in, but if they prove unable to do the job we treat them accordingly.

    Bye bye Hurst.

A shame it didn't work out but it couldn't go on much longer. Lambert wouldn't be my first choice but I'm prepared to see what he can do. Probably can attract a better calibre player than Hurst and has had teams playing good football at times. Guess we'll have to see how it goes, reckon there will be at least one free agent added soon as well.

Joy Royle was hardly a pivotal figure at Norwich City. I wouldn’t rule out any association with Norwich - Ruel Fox, Wes Hoolahan and many others I admire but others - Robert Fleck, Paul Lambert, Darren Eadie are characters I detested at Norwich and so I don’t want associated with Town. Lambert was a central figure in a successful Norwich era and a humiliating one for Town.

Lambert’s appointment would be the submission of what tatters are left of the pride of our once great club. Pride of Anglia? Absolute laughing stock.

Cameron Jerome turned down a move to Town for all the right reasons - pride and loyalty for the job he did there.

Anyone who thinks Lambert will come in and hit the ground running I think is probably kidding themselves. If he has a rough time then as others have pointed out the knives will be out a lot faster than for other figures.

I don’t think this appointment will be anything other than damaging for Ipswich Town. Any three points we pick up will be sour for me. Hopefully it’s an even shorter stint than Hurst’s.
