We could do better than AP Gignac. He's seen in France as a bit of wasted talent, one of those wonderkids hailed as the next big thing as Acid Hippo said. Played in the World Cup back in 2010, and was the subject of 13m pound bid from Lyon and interest from Arsenal while at Toulouse.

But he's now being linked with Fulham, Newcastle and pretty much every Prem team looking at a decent finish. So I wouldn't read into it too much. He's 25, Maiga is better in my book, though I wish there was some decent footage of the lad.

APG also has an incredibly uninspiring scoring record:

Senior career*
Years Team Apps† (Gls)†
2004–2007 Lorient 51 11
2005–2006 → Pau 18 8
2007–2010 Toulouse 98 34
2010– Marseille 32 8

No goals in 239 minutes this season (1 start, 10 subbed on). WhoScored lists finishing as a weakness <laugh>

Haha, Passing, Finishing and Crossing as weaknesses! Isn't that all strikers are meant to do?

Shola has scored one more goal in the same time frame. Not exactly filling me with excitment.

its unfair to compare him with shola. You can't expect him to ever reach that level of ability.

Shola is playing in a better league as well. To be fair I think Gignac often plays behind the striker.

Wouldn't be happy with this signing at all. Doesn't look like he ha anything to offer us at this stage.

Already have Best, Ba and Ben Arfa rotating around the two spots available. Shola fills in when needed. Maiga is more exciting than this guy and more promising, versatile, etc... Between those four there should be competition.

If we get rid of anyone else I'd like another striker too but can't see it happening. Don't see anything in the de Jong or giroud links unfortunately. Giroud has looked fantastic though.
