Defoe signs contract extension Published: 09 June, 2016 by Oscar Chamberlain Top scorer signs new deal. Sunderland AFC striker Jermain Defoe has signed a contract extension with the Black Cats The frontman, who scored 18 goals in all competitions last season, has extended his current deal by another year, keeping him at the Stadium of Light until 2019. Defoe joined Sunderland from Toronto FC in 2014 in a swap deal with Jozy Altidore, and has since gone on to score 22 goals in 53 appearances. He was voted Supporters’ Player of the Year last month and finished as the third highest English goal-scorer in the 2015-16 Premier League season, behind Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy. Speaking about the striker, manager Sam Allardyce said: “Jermain is one of the greatest goal-scorers in the history of the Premier League and is a player that every manager would want to have in their team. “He proved that beyond doubt last season by scoring 15 league goals, he is in fantastic physical condition and we are very pleased that we have been able to extend his stay with us.” Next.
By the end of next season, with 8 PL goals, Defoe will be 7th in the all time PL scorers list. Not bad going really is it? It'll take him 20 to get 6th.
I reckon he'd have gotten those 8 goals this season gone if he'd had the service first half season that he had in the second.
I think he scored more in the first half of the season mate, I've looked at a lot of Defoe stats with the Rashford haters.
He scored 11 of his 15 in the 2nd half of the season. He had 27 chances in the first half of the season Scoring 4 goals. He had 57 chances in the second half of the season scoring 11 times. Only 4% difference between the two halves of the season in goals to shots conversion. We were creating nowt first half of the season mate it was shocking. But Defoe looked sharp all season. Our most consistent player of the those who played the full season by miles. If he'd had the service first half of the season I think he could have had a good shot extra 8 when you consider how goalscorers just get better the more they score.
Who would have thought we would get longevity on this deal, thought he would be crying out for London as soon as he got here. Brilliant news
