Just seen in the Echo that he has died aged 82. Joined the club in 1957 and played up front, decent player, this one is for us oldies, saw him play quite a bit late 50s early 60s.

Like I mentioned above he's one for us oldies, he played up front with Cloughie for a time, scored fairly regularly and left to join Hartlepool in 64 for 10 grand, not a lot by today's standards.

He was signed for a pittance and brought in when the team of all talents was broken up and just about all the club could afford with the upheaval of the transfer embargo on the horizon. Both him and Ernie Taylor along with Stan Anderson were the only big names we had around his time until we signed Clough, Herd, Hooper etc. ready for the big promotion push(es).

I suppose in a way he was just as instrumental in our rebirth as the younger ones he helped through.
