Promising words from Pardew, he has clear ambitions for the club and seems to appreciate the thirst we have for entertaining football.

Compare that to those up the road:

I think there's more chance of us achieving our target than there is of them achieving their's.

I haven't anticipated or been more excited for a summer transfer window in ages.
Hopefully with the right adjustment and the correct additions to the squad we will be capable of challenging the upper reaches of the league as well as give the cups a great shot.
    We can do it!!!

This but change excited for nervous! It's kind of like waiting to go out for dinner with a stunning girl....you know it's something to be excited about and so much good can come from it but there's that little niggle at the back of your head going "but what if it all ****s up!"

  6. I personally would rather focus on pushing up the table so we can get into Europe in the next few years, because that's what attracts players we may need to push on. I don't want to focus it all on a cup and **** up in the league.

I'd love to go to wembley and have a good cup run, don't get me wrong, but not at the expense of a strong finish in the league. If we don't sign intelligently, we could end up being in a relegation dog fight and fighting to progress in the cup won't help.

I can't believe Pardew played a full strength team vs Stevenage. Tiote got sent off, and it was an opportunity to give in the kids a chance.

Always good to have targets, the aimer you high, the better you are likely to do.

    Cup win = Europe.

The problem Newcastle always seems to have is that we underestimate smaller teams really badly, so we often get creamed. That's an issue which the top teams don't seem to have. No matter who they're facing, they work hard and often get the win.

So in that case, it may be better to have a thicker squad where we can put out fringe players and youngsters during the initial cup games. They're less likely to underestimate teams.

The positive thing about us is that we show up and fight when it's important, so a full strength team in, say, a semi-final or final, would probably do well.

Yep. We definitely have big game players, as our performances (both legs) against Chelsea, Arsenal and Sunderland have proven. It's just consistency we lack.

Wouldn't get that out of Hughton. Hughtons version of the interview would sound almost identical to Brucies.

Hughton is a very modest man so his version of the interview would focus on gradual improvement and maintaining team spirit. Seeing him linked to the West Ham position... on the one hand I'd love to see him back in work but their board seem the type who'd sack him if he didn't win the Championship next season and he doesn't deserve that.

Next season it's going to be very tight at the top, with all the usual suspects expected to add to their squads and up their game for the Title, plus Liverpool and Spurs putting all their efforts into getting 3rd or 4th. Next season there's a very realistic chance of at least six teams getting one of the four places, so maybe some/all of these teams won't take the cups too seriously next year, so maybe it's good timing for us to really target a cup next season.

I know I'll get pelters for this, but.......I'd be really dissapointed if the first trophy we won after all this time was the Carling Cup (even though our last proper trophy was won when I was 3!) I just can't properly celebrate something that isn't really important. And you can't really rub someones nose in it saying 'Carling Cup Winners', can you? When we do win something, whenever that may be, I hope the first one is the FA Cup. Lots of tools out there are doing their best to devalue it, but proper fans everywhere know it's something special.

Editorial comment: The previous papagraph is irrelevant, as well all know 'we're gonna win f-all..'

Looks like it will definately be without Enrique who is refusing to start talks with the club for a contract extension.

Id happily take Carling Cup next season. It would shut them up and put them once again firmly in our shadow

Technically we won a trophy in 2006 and 2010, but they were **** ones so none of us consider it. Same applies with the League Cup, all I see it as is qualification for Europe. To break our duck it has to be the FA Cup, the league title, the Europa or the Champions League. Obviously the last three our well out of reach, but there's no reason why we can't give the FA Cup a good go.
