Rose if everything else was even but for a lot less money and shipping some dead wood out then Alonso deal is still a better deal based on all the figures being flung about!

Tbh mate utilising the loan market is what got us in the **** in the first place. If Gus rates Rose at all, Short needs to cough up. He is cover at LB and LW.

Shocking really how bad the club has been ran since he bought it.

Is it bad advice ? Is he tight ? I think some from column a some from column b , hardcore relegation scrap on the cards again i fear. No matter how great Gus is at shining **** , he cant multiply it into more player (**** haha).

But we need players in other positions, it would be daft to think we've got an unlimited budget, what good is it buying a left back and shelling out again for cover when we desperately need an attacking midfielder for the first team, a pacey centre back as our two old boys are so slow I'm surprised they haven't started growing roots. Priorities, we need 5 or 6 players, We can't do this without loaning players, any money spent I'd rather it be on first team impact, not cover.

and it's the wage bill by the way i reckon, it's still over the recommend amount, continuously adding to it won't happen, we need to shift the mass amount of unwanted ****e in our squad before we can address the depth of our squad with permanent signings.

Although I trust Poyet to get his targets, it beggars belief the amount of wide left sided players we would end up with if we got our wishes from all the wanted rumours.

I know it's unlikely, but I bet we would like to see all these on the left - Alonso, Rose or Rodreguez, even though we already have Giac and AJ who can play there.

Yes it's healthy to have competition for places, but these players, I suspect, would want assurances of first team football, rather than accepting to be squad members.

Playing AJ on the right is the only practical option, unless Rodriguez is played left-midfield, however, after that there will be quality first team players warming the bench.

Don't get me wrong, accommodating these four would be a welcome headache for Poyet, but how long would he be able to keep them all happy for?

Marcos Alonso - SunderlandSunderland manager Gus Poyet is confident of signing left back Marcos Alonso permanently from Fiorentina in the summer transfer window.

Alonso joined the Black Cats on loan from La Viola in January and played a vital role in helping them avoid relegation.

“We are negotiating the deal for Alonso with Fiorentina,” Poyet told Sunderland Echo.

“The present situation is somehow different, but we are confident in wrapping up the deal”.

It is expected that Sunderland could offer Modibo Diakite to Fiorentina in the deal to capture Alonso.

In his six-month spell on Wearside, Alonso made 16 Premier League appearances for the Black Cats.

I think thats the gamble teams in our posistion must take mate. Buy them play the best get in to europe , cup finals etc, keep them happy enough till you get the next lot that are better in.

Mate what deadwood / unwanted s**te do we have? N'daiye , Cabral and Graham are the 3 that spring to mind.
Maybee a better question is who isnt dead wood?
Get rid of DG and keep the other 2 unless decent offers come in, even then keep them or we run the risk of ANOTHER year of 10-12 new players needing time to gel blah blah blah. Idk mate something just isnt kosher at the club imo

edit: spose many would say brown o'shea are dead wood , ok in the last year zero resale value pay them off.... or make them shine boots if you gotta pay them already.

If we trying to get rid of dead wood why the fook did we give Seb a new contract !!!

Well the deadwood on the 1st team books now is Roberge, Diakite, Cabral, Alfie, Graham and Scocco(had he wanted to stay I think Gus would have been trying to off load another striker). We're not a top club, we can't afford to have 6 first team players sat in the stands not playing a part, not when these can be replaced with players who'll feature. 6 first team players who aren't in the plans is an absolute shocking waste of wage. Move these on and it will free wages for more signings init. We need to get into the position where every player is in the plans. JoS will be out of contract at the end of the season thank god.
