I recon its more, everything he comes out with then does, and the performances and results, then a stupid idea like that as the straw, rather than the reason.

You really do need to read what´s written sometimes canario, especially when I do the writing. I didn´t say anywhere that A. Neil was the main man for developing our youngsters, I just expressed a hope that whoever takes over, is prepared to go with youth, because I think that is the only way forward, an opinion the senior players have only added to, with their performances this season.

Or they sacked him because of what he said in the presser

You wouldn´t say that it´s perfectly fair and reasonable to congratulate those on here who´ve been clamouring for his departure now since at least before Christmas, which amounts to around 9/10 ths of the active board, at a guess ? - I would. And I´m certainly not going to congratulate the board, because until we see who they actually replace him with, there may be nothing to congratulate.

I see we continued in much the same vein again today, with the added bonus of a straight red to our only left back. <doh>

Because the board decided to sack him a few hours before kickoff!

We have all been through this! Again, the board have F*cked up. It's not "AN got sacked, but it's still the same" This was AN's game, but without him there.

<laugh> I´ve heard of kicking a man once he´s down, and sticking the knife in and giving it a twist, but to blame Neil for today, 24hrs after he´s actually left the Club, pretty much beggars belief. Some of you really did hate him didn´t you?

Irvine came out and said afterwards that AN had picked the team, sorted tactics and picked subs. He said it was late Friday he found out he was taking charge and it was too late to change anything. But don't let the facts get in the way of the truth eh RBF ? ;)

Why was it too late to change anything? Sounds like blame shifting to me!

Irvine said that the players had already gone home and been told they were playing by the time he got the phone call,
Listen to Canary call if you don't believe us.

I don't hate him - Yes, I hated his insistence of always playing the same formation and sticking with 'old guard' and some of the players he brought to the club (Naismith in particular!!). But I also feel that a lot of the blame for what has gone on for the past 21 months is more down to the board being 'out of its depth' in running a PL team.
    See my comment below..
Spot on FML - I was watching Look East and they were talking to twinkle toes and he said that the decision to sack AN was taken at a scheduled board meeting which began at 2pm yesterday. As soon as I saw the team/subs, I knew AN had chosen it and of course the red card only hampered things.
Hats off to the team for coming back to earn a draw I say.

The team sheet does not have to be declared until one hour before kick off, do our overpaid prima donna's not have a telephone?

I'm aware of that Dave, but I'm sure it wasn't worth the hassle of changing it all around just because the board made a MONUMENTAL cock up!!!!!

Much as I frequently question what goes on in training, it's not unreasonable to think that a certain amount of it will have been tailored towards the next game. The lineup will have been decided, players told who they should mark, situations worked through, etc. There's more to picking a team than naming eleven men, Alex Neil (probably) didn't decide who was playing Saturday morning. The team will have trained Friday, and that evening been preparing for the game in their usual fashion. Do you really drag the whole squad back to Colney, tell them to ignore the last couple of days and rush through a new plan in a couple of hours, a plan that you were only handed the opportunity to come up with an hour or so prior?

Secondly, Irvine worked alongside Neil. Neil was a strong personality, but if Irvine had completely different ideas you would imagine he would voice them to the manager. I cannot imagine Irvine toiled away under Neil, desperate to play Whittaker as a trequartista in the revolutionary brand of football he's been dreaming up.

Thirdly, how would you actually change the team given the current state of the squad?
    • Neither goalkeeper has shone, we have a single LB, and the alternatives at RB have been widely criticised. There's something going on with Klose, and picking Bassong or Turner would be laughable. So the back 4 picks itself without any real decisions to be made.

    • Moving into midfield, assuming you're going to stick with something reasonably standard, your central midfield has to be Tettey and Howson. Godfrey is our only other fit option, and if you're going to drop a youngster in you want to give him more than 18 hours notice. Nobody else is fit.
    • You could play 2 out-and-out strikers and pair Jerome with Lafferty, but I imagine the amount of time they've played together or trained that combination is negligible. So it's Jerome plus 3 attacking midfielders. People have wanted Pritchard to get a chance and he did, it's just a shame circumstances forced him off early. Maddison is perhaps the only other player without regular minutes deserving a shot, but it's the same situation as Godfrey.

So given all of that, is it really too surprising that we got an "Alex Neil XI" from a man who helped prepare that team through the week?

The more absurd notion is to suggest that after 2 years at the club AN's influence does not have any effect 24 hours after he left. The sacking of AN has got nothing to do with hate, it is merely a decision that needed to be taken for the future good health of the club.

Apparently Klose told a fan in the car park that Neil had told him he was no longer needed at the club!?!?!?!

I'm sorry RBF but do you actually read what you write before posting. You really don't seem to be able to understand anyone's point of view other than your own. Whether the next manager is better or worse than AN is virtually irrelevant as to whether it was right or not to sack AN. If you're fear of what the next manager might do is your only reason for keeping AN then you really have lost the plot. So if AN was the second worst manager in the world then we shouldn't sack him because his replacement might by the worst manager in the world. What planet do you live on ?
In respect on congratulate no it's not a word I'd use and I've been wanting the club to get rid of him well before Christmas

Dave surely you don't think preparation for a game consists solely of submitting a team sheet one hour before kick off ?
