BRISTOL CITY: Bid for midfielder Alex Gilbey turned down by League One side Colchester United BRISTOL City have reportedly had a bid turned down for Colchester United midfielder Alex Gilbey. Although the fee has not been disclosed, the 21-year-old is deemed the perfect player to slot into City's midfield. City are scouring the transfer market as they look to bolster their squad and recently had a £1m offer snubbed for Gillingham's Bradley Dack. Regarded as a future Premier League player, academy graduate Gilbey has made 28 appearances for United this season and has scored two goals, one of which was on the opening day of the season. Gilbey has made over 100 appearances for the club and has also captained the side. Colchester are currently in the relegation zone in League One and sit 22nd in the table. The former Newport County loanee is in the final six months of his contract at Colchester and the club have been unable to tie him down to a new deal. http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/BRISTOL-CITY/story-28585260-detail/story.html http://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2016/01/22/bristol-city-bid-for-colchesters-gilbey-rejected/
FFS, why are we still trying to do things on the cheap. If we truly want the player, go and talk to the club and negotiate a price agreeable to all sides which might involve PAYING THE ****ING ASKING PRICE. NOT ONLY IS IT IS EMBARRASSSING TO HAVE A STRING OF HEADLINES IN THE PRESS SAYING "XYZ" REJECT BID FROM BRISTOL CITY (AND IT'S LEAGUE ONE CLUBS NOW), IT IS MAKING US A NATIONAL LAUGHING STOCK AND IS DAMAGING THE CLUB'S CREDIBILITY (whatever shred of this that we have left)... Step in Mr Lansdown before we get to the point where the paperboy turns us down...
I'm afraid that this is likely to be a sadly familiar article headline over the coming weeks. Nobody wants to come to a sinking ship with nobody at the helm.
Nothing to do with the player, we didn't even get that far, Colchester turned us down... This is a player who might be happy to come to us but we have put in a cheapskate offer again
Gotta say it really does concern me,we are bidding for bottom league one players, are they serious about players improving us,say a lot what our management think about our current squad. Really embarrassing, what is going on regards the standard of players we are after. I DO WONDER NOW WHO IS GOING TO BE NAMED THE NEW MANAGER.
I was hoping saner heads would prevail this time around but I'm starting to have my doubts. Have we jumped on board some suicidal roundabout or is my aged mind confusing itself? Affirmative action was required and here we are again rifling around the bargain basement expecting some financial savings only to be lead up the proverbial garden path and when we get to the bottom fence we get kicked in the nuts. How many more times can we seemingly get it totally wrong, and perhaps if we took our heads out of the sand for a minute we might be able to focus on what needs to be done instead of moaning and complaining about why we can't. If we are looking in all the wrong places inevitably we may end up with all the wrong people and it fries my brain as to why we continue this stupidity and expect better results. Remember those nights in the pub when the 3 became a 10 around 9:30 and, although you knew all your friends and the rest of the world were laughing at you, you still progressed with your stupidity only to have to come up with a reasonable excuse in the cold hard light of day? Sound like anybody you know? DUH.
A bid of less than £75k for this player would be deemed derisory in my book ... they have 2 players we could use Gilbey and Mathew Briggs offer £1 .6m for them both, young, and fit the bill for the future.. it still leaves them Joe Edwards! ... did well at Yeovil in a struggling team ...
