Good to see that no one is having a go at AB (thats AB not AVB) after Sunday. But on the other hand no one has been posting about how well he did. Did not see him put a foot wrong and this mornings HDM gave him along with Davies and Paul McShane an 8. Way to to.

If he makes one mistake, they'll be all over this forum, trust me.

I suspect if McLean gets another run out on Wed they'll be all over him, even if he scored a hattrick.

At some point last season, while he was playing in midfield, a lot of people seemed to forget that he'd done just fine in defence before being asked to play out of position. And he did well on Sunday in a low-key way.

He's not the world's best centre-half (because Curtis Davies is) - but he's far from the worst as well.

I was surprised if I'm being honest. Granted, he is a solid defender, but I thought he'd get found out against Spurs on Sunday. He actually had a very good game.

Alex Bruce is good, dependable Championship player. He has a great professional attitude and always gives his all. In one off situations like that I am not surprised that he plays so well and does his job with assurity.

However, if you played him week-in-week-out you would very soon see that however commendable the attitude, he, and the same applies to a few in our squad, is simply not good enough at this level. It's a simple fact.

Elmo. He hasn't stepped his game up and is lazy with the ball.

I quite like Alex Bruce as a centre half, he rarely makes mistakes at the back. I think the criticism of him was all about him playing in midfield, where I'd just as soon play with one less midfielder than play Alex Bruce there. His ball retention is awful and winning the ball isn't so commendable when you pass it to the enemy in the first place.

So do I, was just saying that Elmo has been the one player who hasn't stepped up for me yet. I would drop him as soon as Koren is back, maybe give him a bit of a walk up, his crosses have been especially rubbish.

It makes me sick when a player is victimised by fans for only the occasional mistake.

And I know Alex feels the same.

That's bullshit though, nor is it a simple fact. On the straw poll of one PL game, and a decent performance at that. Why is it possible to suggest he'll get found out and be crap in other games? The simple fact is, it isn't.

We don't know what he'll be like. If he is to be played at centre half, I'd have no problem with that. It's when he's stuck in midfield that he's ****ing awful.

Agreed - he played well. He may well play well each time he is asked to play. There'll always be city fans that have a blinkered view regardless of what is happening in from of their eyes.

SB kept AB and McShane because he thought they were better equipped for the premiership than Hobbs. SB knows more about playing in the premiership than any of the football managers here. Until someone proves they cannot cope, why keep banging on about how they cannot cope

Sydney, that second paragraphs bullshit. Hobbs was first choice ahead of Alex and McShane last season. That gives you an inclination as to who was higher rated. With the arrival of Davies Hobbs was pushed down to 2nd choice, he wanted to be playing and we were far too centre back heavy, someone had to go and Hobbs was the only one with sufficient interest.

I agree with Elmo. Koren is probably the answer in that position. Shame really as until 5 games to go last season he played well in most games

He is in last chance saloon as far as a Premier League team is concerned, having been bombed out of Sunderland. I hope he pulls it together and shows some form soon as we cannot carry anyone

I think its based on his ball retention, his poor distribution, the constant gifting away of possession last year, his more positioning at times last year, and poor man marking. Also he is very poor in the air. Thats last season, which was the Championship.

However on Saturday i was pleasantly surprised, he didn't put a foot wrong and he played well. Like all of our players, until he does poorly this season i won't have a go. Last season i disliked him a lot, but that was more at the fact he was in midfield. In defence he would of done a decent job. This year there are others ahead of him but as a fifth choice centre back your not going to get a lot better.
