I subscribe to Mosque expansion UK monthly.
Sounds like they are just knocking out back walls and building new toilets .

Yes many are self funded. My wife's dad was involved in raising money for his mosque in North London. They fully funded their own mosque back in the 70's.

But Saudi do occasionally pick up the shortfall, dependent I think on those involved, race/culture-wise if you get my drift.

They're also known to have funded hundreds of madrasses across Asia.

 

If everyone is happy no need to worry.
