He still has the same philosophy, no glass ceilings at Southampton either. Love the fat legs gag.

The story about Bielsa is pretty bizarre.

I remember it was posted when he was announced, and I watched it again recently when running back through that fateful thread, but watching it once more still makes me chuckle. I remember the first time I watched it I found it thoroughly uninteresting, but now with the Mauricio-love firmly instilled within me it's captivating.

    Bit child snatcher!

I like the bit where he talks about players putting a glass ceiling over their heads, Saints don't look like they think there is a ceiling at the moment.

I remember Balague saying when Mauricio was appointed...

...if you want to learn to play like Barcelona, you go to Mauricio.

He said that he was a top, top coach who will manage one of the greats and that Saints fans should be excited.

Pretty hard to argue with any of that.

It really is. If Nicola turned around tomorrow and said he had tied Pochettino down to a 5 year deal I'd be over the moon.

Yep, same here. Seen it several times since.

One thing. OK, pepys may not see links put up by posters, but if they do have a click on them, even if you think they might be boring. Sometimes, they're more interesting than you think they're going to be. This one might have done service, but it's good to see it back here. Sadly, the Cortese BBC interview from League One appears to be no longer available [I've looked a lot], which is a great shame because Nicola's vision was exactly the same as it is these days. Only these days there is more detail, but it's still worth a watch if you can find it.

Another thing. You can see where Mauricio gets his inspiration. Marcelo Bielsa is his mentor, in terms of tactics. In terms of attitude, you can see the influence Pochettino has over the players. No glass ceilings - reach for the stars. If you fall short [and it's amazing that more often than not you don't if you truly believe and work hard], you end up in a far better position than if you limit yourself.

Yes, that is a perspective from a sophisticated European mind looking for things that aren't there.

I think that by now his English will be very good, but I think he has a complex mind and thinks in his native tongue. He probably feels it may come over wrongly in English and he gets time to frame his answers as he hears the question twice. It also means that the media don't keep asking for sound bites...I doubt his car gets stopped in car parks a la Redknapp. It also pisses the media off, so what is not to like.

Someone online was saying that Mauricio was on Spanish television during the last international break, and he was interviewed about his time in Southampton.

He said that, rightly or wrong, he is very cautious about the media and especially so with the British media, because of what he has been told by others and also in case he gets caught out by some questioning.

The 'others' he mentions will be Cortese. He was laughed out of town when he said we would be back in the PL and would be an example for others to follow. They thought he was a jumped up nobody who didn't understand football. May be not, but he knows how to hire people who do.

And who can blame him? When he reads stories like the Mirror bullshit about Rodriguez he must wonder what he has to say to get his real opinions published. Present company excepted DTLW, but it's easy to see why many people distrust the media these days.

Seems suspicious that he's already wearing what looks like an Eterna watch in full on 'Shove it in front of the camera that's the Southampton way' style. I think we should be told.
