According to Keith Curle the Notts County Manager we have made a bid for Alan Judge with BWP and Danny Green going the other way.
He must be one hell of a player if he's worth two of ours! I'm still not convinced BWP has reached his ceiling in the Championship, but he's well proven in league one.
He is a very decent player,he destroyed us last Season when we had that blip against Notts County. He is only 5 6 though so won't please the height Police.
I seem to remember this bloke sticking one in against us at Meadow Lane as well. High assist rate, too.
The bid has been rejected http://www.thisisnottingham.co.uk/story-17903060-detail/story.html Curle doesn't want two of our players that aren't good enough for us? They are certainly good enough for L1 FFS!
His Wiki entry says he played just over 50 games for Plymouth Argyle while they were still in the Championship.
I'm intrigued why Notts would reject this, on the basis that BWP scored 22 goals last season, and they'd be getting someone who could give him the service. They must rate Judge really highly.
Keith curle is an idiot. He stuffs away dressing rooms doors with paper as he thinks it stops the other team listening to his team talks.
Is that the football equivalent of those chess players who cover their heads in aluminium foil to stop their thought patterns being read by their opponents?
What?? Judge is rated very very highly by Notts fans. At the same time, it was a common theme on 'away boards' last season that BWP was 'overrated'. Still think BWP is better than anything else they have I'm more surprised that they weren't interested in Green
Sauce... http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=402&fid=17&sty=2&act=1&mid=2113405065&page=1 Poundpie said: "That was not the offer on the table at all." Poundpie is well known to be Ray Trew's wife. She has the name because she gave him the pound with which he bought the club. Fairly clear that an offer has been made. So if a swap deal wasn't on the table, then what was the deal? I think Curle has made a very strange PR decision, unless there are several clubs making offers for Judge. After all, if they end up selling him and not replacing, his comments about two mainstays of last season's division winning team will look very strange. I'm grateful that Powell hasn't and isn't currently talking about other clubs' interest in his players. The only comment I remember was about Stephens being left out of the squad away at Forest
Yep, also been known to use toilet paper if he runs out of A4. Keith Curle hates trees. I think that's a new chant right there.
Very unprofessional of him to namedrop, though perhaps I'm just a bit too used to Chris Powell's secrecy. BWP and Green were two of the best players in their respective positions in last years League One, getting 22 goals and 10 assists(?) respectively. This year the league is a lot weaker and thus if kept happy, they could both do a lot of damage. I'm glad Curle didn't accept the offer, though I'm not quite sure its true. Surely Chris Powell wouldn't be foolish enough to let two players go who cost £550,000 altogether (as far as I'm led to believe) in exchange for a player who is out of contract in 6 months.
This deal would have been a very poor one for us i am almost certain. For a start Green and BWP are top drawer league 1 players without a doubt, and there is no way Notts County should be turning that offer down if it had been made. Secondly, we have no idea how Judge will fit in with the squad. Tewkes says he played for Plymouth in the Championship but he cant have been that good to have been let go to a team in a lower division. And thirdly and most importantly, the last time we swapped a player we ended up with Leon Clarke
You mean he stuffed the door at (picking a ground at random) the Valley, or he gets the door stuffed at Meadow Lane? Maybe he uses recycled toilet paper. Jimmy, your 'not good enough for Plymouth' argument is self-contradictory as that's exactly where we got BWP from. They were desperately offloading players/wages at the time on their spiral downwards and potentially out of the league. They had Judge when they had Premier League ambitions (to go with their World Cup bid stadium plans). Clarke was a player Swindon didn't want. We swapped him for Benson, who, rightly or wrongly, was a player we didn't want. Notts definitely want to keep Judge. Absolutely 100% understand that you want to keep BWP and Green, but I think Judge is a different case to Clarke. The wages situation would make it favourable to Charlton, but probably would not be so attractive to Notts. Anyway, that's not what was offered by Charlton/rejected by Notts.
When we brought in BWP we were buying a player who had proven himself in the very same league, Judge has not proven himself in this division, and neither has BWP. Precisely why i see this move vastly in Notts' favour. There are several players out there who are available, Wordsworth being one we surely cant wait much longer to bring in. A central midfielder is needed, but i would be surprised if Stephens goes on deadline day and we hadn't brought a replacement in, leading to a Scott Parker to Chelsea situation where we shoot ourselves in the foot. Whatever we are doing transfer wise, it needs to be done pronto so there is time to let the dust settle, far too often we are our own worst enemy with transfers
i wouldnt be too disappointed if we just kept the same players. definitely dont want any more loans, and i'd rather us wait till the end of the season for judge and wordsworth to be bought in on frees
