Now I know I am not the youngest (by some way) on this board, but today I think age has finally begun to catch up with me.

I took a days holiday as I was having 4 ton of topsoil delivered. Needless to say it rained this morning so it was not until about 2 o'clock that I started moving it from the front drive to the back of the house. Using a wheelbarrow I shifted 1 ton and it took me 2hrs!

In the past I would have shifted twice that. I once had 30 tons of gravel delivered for the drive at my previous house, and shifted the lot during a weeks holiday.

I think age has finally started catching up with me, my back is killing me and Mrs Bread will see no action tonight, and possibly not for the foreseeable future!

I believe, without getting to philosophical about it, that we each realise age is catching up with us when certain events happen. You do not need to be old either, I remember going into The State on Dale St one night on a works night out ( I was about 28) and feeling so old I would have left, if a 19yr old girl from the office had not offered to look after me for the night.

Has anyone else had that "god, I'm getting old" feeling and if so in what circumstances?

Not so much getting old, but having kids makes it all seem so much finite. And going back to Essex and seeing people where you think that they were the age I am now hwen I moved there, and seeing what they look like now, and thinking that doesn't seem like a very long time.

But I'm still young(-ish) for now!

My job used to entail spading ten tons of sand and cement into a mixer and barrowing into a house for floor screeding.......in one day.<yikes>

Thank **** I'm now the one in the house and not on the mixer.<whistle>

  6. Recovery time is the main thing.

Used to go out drinking (and I mean out out) every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the hangover would be done by Monday lunch time. Now if I go out on just a Saturday, I'm still hanging come Wednesday!

Used to play football every day but Saturday and it never bothered me. Now I can hardly walk for the aches and pains the next day!

Just like with a lack of exercise, if you stop boozing regularly you lose your boozing stamina <laugh>

I used ot go on the rip on thursday and finish up Sunday. Even the thought of that now takes it's toll on me!

Ford Kuga. Company car and we are tied into Ford (as the parent company is American). Will make a change from the 5 Mondeo estates I have had on the run. As I only have one offspring at University from September this year thought I would have a change and get something a bit smaller.

Have you seen the amount of stuff a kid takes to university? In addition she wants to take her musical instruments. I have said "NO" to the keyboard, amps, bass guitar (the case is 6ft long), but she is taking a French Horn and Tenor Horn

The Kuga is not that big as it's based on the Focus chassis, the Mondeo estate is a bit of a monster, but they did come in handy at times when collecting furniture, etc

That's life, have kids you end up driving practical cars. Here is a potted history of my cars in order of ownership

Reliant Scimitar GTE 3.0litre V6 (sold when I got a company car, always regretted it)

    ALL COMPANY CARS AS BELOW

    Ford XR2
    Astra 2.0 Litre GTE
    Cavalier 2.0Litre SRI (TWO KIDS)
Calibra 2.0 Litre (Bosses idea of a joke giving me a sports coupe when I had 2 kids)
    Passatt 2.0 litre (3 KIDS)
Mondeo 2.0 litre estate (for 16 years, changed every 3 yrs)

This is why I go to Silverstone every now and again to drive Aston Martins, Lambos, Audi R8, Ferrari, etc
