Well thats a load of bollocks. If that was the case all the managers (and there has been a few) over the years wouldn't keep starting him if they didn't rate or want him and his contract wouldn't keep getting renewed. Shola has played for us for 12 years because he loves the club and has always been wanted at the club. Every game he put in 100% effort for us and over the years he has scored some big goals. Yes he's not prolific but he's great at holding the ball up and supporting a goalscorer e.g Shearer and Ba. You need players like that who will work hard for the cause. He doesn't have to score when he's setting up and supporting other goalscorers does he? Not to mention he's suffered a really bad injury in his career which has had an impact on his game. I'm not saying he's the best or anything like that but the amount of work, effort, commitment and service he has put into this football club over the years is more than worthy of a testimonial, like it or not.

<laugh> That 'holding up the ball' thing again.

And no, he isn't prolific at supporting a goalscorer. THAT is a load of ****. Name how many assists he has again over the past few Premier League seasons?

And to this day, I still don't understand why they have done that. Luckily one or two managers realised Shola was **** and tried to pawn him off to Stoke in the Championship, but even they didn't want him.

I'm sure he does, but you say that like he's had to resist the lure of bigger clubs or something?

Alan Shearer was a loyal player who stuck with us to the end despite being able to win trophies and medals with bigger clubs. Shola hasn't had anything to resist. He's been getting paid every week, being a lazy ****er and still getting games, so why would he leave? Loyalty my arse.

100% effort <doh><laugh> You're saying that one of the laziest footballers on the planet is a guy who puts in 100% effort? How about you look at other players, like Best, who are running up and down the pitch all match, whilst Shola stands there like a pillock watching everything.

As for his goals, like I said, you throw enough **** and some of it will stick. 39 goals in 11 years of football for a STRIKER is shocking. It averages out at 3.5 goals per season.

No he isn't. Who the hell are you watching?
He doesn't work hard. He's a lazy ****er. I cannot believe you're even suggesting he works hard <laugh>! Jonas works hard. The players bombing up and down the pitch whenever they can work hard. Shola does not.

1). He doesn't set up other goalscorers, or not very often
2). Of course he has to score ****ing goals. HE'S A STRIKER. That's what strikers do. They score goals. <doh>

The amount? So, not a lot then?

Shola is a **** striker, and the guy is one of the luckiest men on the world that he's been able to hang onto a job in a Premier League team for so long. There is no way on this planet anyone else at this level would ever, ever go for him. He's obviously a very professional and helpful guy off the field, so that's really worked in his favour. Even though he's ****, every manager has LIKED the guy, but that's no bearing on how much of a good footballer he is.

And the stuff about Ameobi being unwanted is bollocks. He went on loan to Stoke and last year we rejected a 1.5 million pound offer from Birmingham.

Nonetheless he should pack it in soon if he keeps up last night's performances.

Whenever I watch him I can't help but feel sad, as if he once had so much potential but has gone and wasted it all. We see occasional glimpses of it (run into the box/goal too with Spurs) but the rest is just depressing.

Don't follow in your brother's footsteps Sammy. Although do stay here for your career.

And you're twisting the stats very harshly there Chappaz. He's never been our first choice (as low at 6th/7th at times) and has had some horrible injuries. 3.5 per season doesnt tell the story at all, he's scored 71 goals in 318 games for us (counting sub appearances) which is more than a goal every 5 apps. He's played through injury and incredible turmoil at this club when he could have jumped ship, and isnt lazy by choice, but because his years of service are seriously taking their toll on him.

    Note two things:

    1). It was only £1.5million
2). Birmingham are now relegated. Seems that trying to buy Shola wasn't the only **** decision they made

Im saying the stats as they are. At this top level, the Premier League, he's scored 3.5 goals per season on average. I think there was one season where he managed 1 in 3 goals, but that was about 6 years ago. Certainly in the last few years at this level he has been atrocious.

Even if most of them are subs, his goals to app record, and his assists record, have been horrendous even for that.

No but in all seriousness, I agree with Chappaz mainly. Shola 10 years ago or so had potential and could have been great one day. Managers ****ed him up and he ****ed himself up. Therefore he is now lazy, slow, technically terrible and just plain poor.

Shola has been a great squad player during his time. Very rarely has he been 1st choice. He may not have the actual credit for assists (had a big part in the winner yesterday) but has still made a few in his time shearers 201st as said earlier and it was his knock down for shearers screamer against everton. Lets also not forget how many he has put past them down the road. I for one will be going to his testimonial
