Hi Saw the Adkins interview on saints player last night, sounded as positive as ever in regards to new season... loved the fact they asked him how many points can we expect after first 4 games against city, wigan man united and arsenal, adkins reply "3 points per game, 4 games, you do the math" LOL SUperb answer. When asked about new signings, he said he hoped to have 1 or 2 in before the players report back on 28th June. If we do get 2 in that will be 3 before July. Is it me or is there a bit more urgency now, we usually start very slow regarding transfer activity. I have always been a fan of get them in early so they have a complete pre season with us and hit the ground running. NA and NC seem to be trying to get it done and dusted as quickly as possible which is a good thing. Apologies if I rambled on, but not everyone has access to Saints player so though I would share it. COYR
Slow with transfer activity? It's mid-June, the window opened like 10 days ago, and we have 2 months until the season starts. Plenty of time.
Er, he said we aren't being slow And he has a point, surely better for new signings to have a complete pre-season with us?
Saw this too and have to say I have missed Adkins' positivity. Last season if we lost, we won or drew the next game. This season there will be fewer wins but, hopefully, beating a top club will buoy the team through a dry spell. Adkins said immediately we were promoted that he wanted new players on board early and not be desperately trying to recruit in January. These things are obviously harder to do than we think...players have to be targetted (probably an ongoing thing) but then offers have to be made, players have to be convinced, deals agreed. Let's hope it's sooner rather than later.
I do believe that a full pre-season Nigel style will be important for all new signings. Fraser was impressive early on this year, having had a full pre-season compare to an injured one the year before. Rickie looked physically impressive in August as did several others. I think Nigels' team seem to hit the right notes for pre-season.
It'll be good to get another couple in especially if they are major players for the coming season before preseason starts Need to get up and running quickly with the first set of fixtures we have. May surprise one or two of the 'big' clubs.
Yes agree its great to get them in early, especially someone like Jay Rodriguez who has to move house etc... great for him to get on board. Think we will aim to get 2 or 3 before then see how we are fixed, its no secret we need another keeper and centre half etc...
Always good to get players in asap. However, cicumstances dictate and not always possible. You try and get who you want however long it takes. I have sure missed the positivity of Adkins though. Just reading the article on the Saints website has fired me up for the coming season.
I saw a couple of guys online asking Sky Sports News' Graeme Bailey, who is one of their chief football reporters about us. He tweeted something along the lines of "a very exciting" signing but then he said he knew the name but was asked not to disclose it. Not a scooby who he is on about.
Don't mention the words 'very exciting' on here...everyone will be disappointed if it's not Messi or Drogba. Keep our cool head on (you know the one without the wild staring eyes) and we will no doubt be very pleased.
Exactly. It's the hope that kills you. Just take these, and Nigel's words as things are expected to happen soon. But don't leave yourself feeling disappointed.
Sometimes it's best to go in hard if you want someone. If you start low you can drag competition with you. If you start high, another team will think it's too hot for them.
