So, on Tuesday I was walking across the square in the small town where I stay in France wearing my white away shirt, when I saw this elderly man walking towards me wearing a new CAFC Macron windcheater. The conversation went something like this (given my dodgy French) -

Me: Morning, fancy meeting another Addick out here.
    EM: (Unintelligible stream of French)
Me: Sorry, I thought you were from back home because of your top - it's the badge of my favourite team, Charlton Athletic. (Pointing at my badge)
EFM: What sort of team is that?
    Me: A football team.
EFM: I'm only interested in Rugby. Have they won anything?
    Me: Not recently.
EFM: Probably why it was for sale. I bought it at a car boot sale in Boulogne for 5 euros, was I robbed?

Told him the price new and he made a noise like someone rattling pebbles in a tin which I thought might have been the start of a cardiac arrest at the shock but which turned out to be him laughing.

    EFM: A bargain!

Too right - why is it when I go to a boot sale the only thing I see is damaged china dogs, hideous furniture and rusty garden tools?

Eerily, this is the second time I've come across someone wearing the colours in the same square. About five years ago, I talked to a Scot whose wife had bought him a CAFC sweatshirt in a charity shop in Dundee.

Anybody else had an experience like this or seen the colours in an unexpected place?

Thats an amazing story. Should have offered 6euros for it!

I saw a fellow Charlton fan at Universal Studios back in 98. Saying that, it's rare to see a CAFC walk around London let alone France.

Not seen any Charlton Fans on my travels.

When I was out in the USA for a long time, I met tonnes of Manchester United fans  All the conversation went something like this:

American: WOW! You're English. That's soo cool. I bet you like Soccer, and I bet you hate it that we call it Soccer.
Me: Yeah, I like football. Like the uninterrupted free flowing game of two halves, passion, etc.
American: You know I watch a lot of football/soccer. I sort of support....
Me: * interrupts*... let me guess. Manchester United.
American: WOW! How did you know? I like David Beckham. Think he's a good player.
Me: You do know he plays for Real Madrid.
    American: Who?
American: Anyway, I knew this English person called "John Smith" from Manchester. He supported United.
Me: *thinking* hardly, no-one in Manchester supports United.
American: You must know "Smith" he's a top bloke.

    Beautiful thread. Top quality.

Once at a car-boot sale in Dagenham I saw a second-hand breast-pump on sale for £10. There ain't no amount of steriliser gonna bring that one up!

Remember the old home shirt with the white/black hoop going over the shoulder back in the eighties? Well i was wearing this at Cape Canavaraal and traded it with a guy for his Tampa Bay Rowdie shirt........it was the same design, but predominantly white with a green/black shoulder hoop.

A second hand breast pump - ye gods, PE

Then again, did you see that restaurant in London earlier on this year that were selling breast milk ice cream until the local H&S stopped them?

Healthier than some of the stuff that ends up on our supermarket shelves, I'd bet.

    A few items of interest....

    1) I swopped my MESH red CAFC shirt for a hand-carved Garuda in Bali about 2002.

    2) Literally bumped into Mark Fish in Paarl, South Africa wearing my home shirt. Top bloke.

    3) Also in South Africa, saw a CAFC car sticker in the car in front, and had to get out at the next set of lights to ask him only to find that it had been there since the guy had bought the car and that he was a Manure fan.

A colleague at work married a guy from Peru

We got chatting in a pub (my bad spanish and his bad english somehow managed to see us through) and spent the evening "discussing" the Peruvian team from the '78 World Cup (Cubillas I think) plus Solano and the ex Chelsea forward who went back to Werder Bremen ...name escapes me

We ended up agreeing to swap one of my Charlton shirts - the black away one from 5 or so years back - for a Peruvian top, white with red diagonal stripe

This was all agreed once we were ever so slightly pished !!!!

The following week the exchange went through .... slight issue

I have him a large CAFC shirt .... he gave me a very small Peru shirt - forgot to mention that the bloke is barely over 5 feet tall

The Peru shirt is very nice and I'm sure once my Son reaches about 4 or 5 years old he'll certainly get some wear out of it

Think Mr Peruvian Man turned my shirt into a tent or possible a pair of curtains - I can only speculate
