Haven't seen this mentioned yet. Take your time to look at the video for essentially the EU version of SOPA/PIPA, it WILL affect all of us and lead to some major changes in this forum and throughout the internet.

I know its 7ish minutes and not the most exciting thing in the work but this really isn't something to be apathetic about.

And as a reward, here's a picture of 'Arry in a weeks time!

Thanks, great video, very informative and explains it well

The stop the Kraken bit made me laugh though. It'slike they tried to think of a good slogan but couldn't

Edit: Will sign all the petitions posted on here

Edit Edit: As long as they're about this. I hate to think what sort of horrible thing you guys would trick me into signing

Surprisingly accurate video, expected it to exaggerate a bit much but it didn't. I can't grasp why anybody would actually want this to pass.

I can think of a few; ignorance on the level of that displayed in the SOPA hearings, entertainment industry money kindly filling the pockets of relevant politicians, and the intent to censor the internet.

It made me laugh as well, i guess its meant to be an analogy of the US getting its tentacles into the EU.

Also that chicken is definitely roasted not fried!

It worries me that no major outlet has really picked up on this. Though I'm sure they will.

Oh yeah totally, I meant I can't grasp why any average joe citizen would want it passed. It's painfully clear how these bills have come about and it also highlights the danger that acts could easily just be pushed through by a corporate influenced government without any public say-so at all.

No-one really wants it passed, the problem is it's only people who use the internet regularly (and I mean regularly, not "I check my facebook every day!") that know about it and hence not the largest political voice.
Then on top of that you've got all the people who think the governments can do no wrong, and all the people that swallow the bullshit about it being good for artists...

One of the main reasons I joined the armed forces was to protect freedom of speech etc very naive and overly idealistic I know but so be it. WOuld be disgusted if this passed like.

You won't hear anything negative about it from any Murdoch owned outlet, he's a staunch supporter of these types of bills. It took the wikipedia blackout for SOPA to make the UK press, and even then they intentionally completely ignored why the blackout occurred.

Ah right, thought you couldn't have meant it in the way I answered, but did anyway <diva> I can't grasp very much at all about the 'average Joe', the levels of sheer ignorance people can have towards a subject and still have a strong opinion on it, which is frequently based on them being swayed by Murdoch media or similar idiocy, is astounding.

Yeah, as tom is saying, it could really do with more promotion to get it drilled into the heads of ignorant people. When Wikipedia went down for a day the whole world started talking about SOPA.

Yeah, I think the internet needs to have another blackout. That's also kinda what I meant, when Wiki blacked out loads of other websites were showing their support - according to my friend even the porn sites got in on the act (though I think he was taking the piss <laugh>)
I can understand the media in this country is too reliant on ad revenue to ever support it (and those that aren't have far too small a readership pool) but the media is increasingly small which is partly why this bill is being brought in in the first place!

    Oh yeah, "your friend"...

It was actually Youporn that first brought SOPA to my attention, they had a thing about it a few weeks before the blackout.

I think the final blow to SOPA was dealt when the Pokémon wikipedia went on blackout.
