was the loudest chanting of the night, was it sarcastic or did nobody else see him try to trap a simple ball 3 times then fall on his arse? come on, i know the guy works his socks off, but his lack of control would embarrass a league 2 footballer, im all for singing and getting behind the lads, and i joined in with every chant of his name, but it felt like pisstaking rather then genuine love....dont know how others felt
Weird thing with Mclean is, he seems to regularly have a poor touch from a simple pass to feet. But often when a long ball is pinged out to him on the wing he takes it really well. Wasn't at Birmingham but I prefer having Brady, Fryatt, Stewart, three quality footballers despite Mcleans obvious work-rate.
true that, even last night a few minutes after comically falling over his own feet, he almost hit one in from 20 yards...does make it hard work trying to play the type of football barmby wants to play when you can see some players are nervous about passing to him, twice last night fryatt looked across, then turned back the other way. i just dont get the constant chanting of his name, while true heroes of the night like mckenna and hobbs never get a mention...its a strange one.
Guessing you mean the 'I just can't get enough' chant? Yeah, I think it's a bit of a joke to be honest. Hmmm, they don't really have any songs do they. Perhaps one of Chester or Hobbs could inherit the 'There's only one ***** Walking along, singing a song, walking in a City wonderland' or whatever it is. Don't know about McKenna. Mannone, Rosenior, Evans, Koren, Mclean, Stewart and Fryatt all seem to get a bit of a song. Only rate Rosenior's though, think we could be a bit more inventive with some of our songs. As for Mclean, Barmbs feels the same way, just obviously thought a tough away game at Birmingham, it would help to have someone like Mclean. Also, both Brady and Cam were both feeling pretty tired this week apparently.
McLean defended really well last night made a couple of important tackles and supported Dawson especially in the second half. He did have the touch of a brick wall at times with the ball bouncing off, but then again he was never pushed off the ball and is a proper handful. He is an enthusiastic hard working honest footballer who keeps improving and out jumps just about anybody. Seems people either love him or hate him. No one just quite likes him......Bit like marmite really
I think its purely horses for courses. Bradey and Stewart are good going forward but at times dont chase back to get possession again when the ball is lost.McClean will track back and graft, yet has poor control. Last night we needed to defend from the front.
I think a lot of people are underestimating Stewart's defensive side. To be honest I didn't notice it until Saturday when Brady and Stewart stayed on the same wings for the whole game, and Dawson was getting forward a lot more than normal (or at least being caught as the furthest forward player more). On Saturday though Stewart was doing a lot of defensive work, clearly on instruction from Barmby (no swapping with Brady, Daws knowing he could go forward more). He wasn't doing much running about at their back line so when he lost the ball it looked like he wasn't helping out, but he was always getting himself into a position to combat the threat of Adomah running at pace at Dawson.
