I have seen more managers at Sunderland in my time to fill a small theatre and every one to a tee has been appointed with hope more than expectation. Today, for the first time, expectation far exceeds hope. This is without doubt the best managerial appointment in my 36 years. With durban, smith and Reid, no one knew how it would turn out but were happy and relieved. With nearly every other manager in between we lonew the second they were appointed that we were ****ed and It was only a matter of time before things went tits up. In Martin o Neill, we have that proven winner. A manager that fills me with an immense sense that short means business here. Managers like Mon don't sign up to scratch out an existence; they don't come just to make up numbers and they don't come because no one else wanted them. Managers like Mon come because all The ingredients are there for them To succeed. It's the intent shown in his appointment that makes of so sure. This is the very best day in my 36 years following this club and I look forward with huge expectation and excitement to the future. Iam buzzing this morning, much to the amusement of my little girl as she laughs at her daft daddy dancing around the kitchen this morning. Roll on the press conference and his unveiling.
I agree Cest' I am of a similar vintage and have seen way too many managers at out club. The one manager I thought was going to change our fortunes was Lawrie McEnemy..He came with a huge reputation and was seen at the time as a massive coup for Sunderland. We all know what happened there. I happen to think this is very different. MON has plied his trade at a few clubs and has left everyone of them in a much better shape than when he arrived. He is now at his boyhood club and as Cest says...this by far the most significant moment (bar 1973) we have all had Sunderland supporters
I was careful to say my 36 years and to be honest, no one knew how that would turn out at the time. Martin o Neill is the real deal. 100% positive thoughts from me and not a single negative because there are none. The blackburn game will be incredible now and a rocking atmosphere imo. Would love to see a full house or at least 45k + to welcome him here. Short has delivered. The ball is back in our court.
Apparantly Short wanted Hughes, it was Quinn who persuaded him to get Oneill. All Hail the Mighty Quinn.
We wanted Bruce out...Short delivered. We wanted MON...Short is straight off to London to get him. If MON comes you can guarantee he's been promised funds...Short again. This appointment has answered many questions about Ellis.
Well I doubt anybody will be unhappy with the appointment of MoN. So now the fun starts, I expect him to get more out of the existing squad and I also guess it will have cost money to get rid of SB and money to bring MoN in. However I also hope that Ellis Short will back MoN to bringing in at least one striker and one creative midfielder in during the Jan window. It will take time for MoN to turn things round and we must be patient and not expect too much too soon, mid-table this season and a sort out in the summer and next season will be much better! I also now expect the crowd to be up at the next home game and a very different atmosphere from the Wigan one.
Deffo not my choice, but I am right behind the man if he succeeds. Just get ready for defensive counter attacking football which is his trait. One thing is for sure, the mags are already running scared. FTM Bart
buzzin, but got to keep our feet on the ground. there is still a lot to do to turn around the mess we are in. KTF, FTM!
