Agreed, and i'm not sure what Cosi is upset about tbh . This board in my experience has probably been the best moderated and certainly the most respectful one on the site. Perhaps small things like the Paella in the face thread overstep the mark on the occasion, but i don't see an endemic problem and passions are always going to run high on race day especially and too much restriction/punishment would only serve to drive posters away in my opinion.

As for Manny i do suspect it was just stress or something similar. It was pretty visible in the games threads before that row started. I think and hope he will return pretty soon from a slightly embarrassing episode (we'll forgive you Manny).

Yeah, I believe BLS has a link in his signature (I have signatures turned off so I can't see them), but I've brought them back and Stickied them to the front page. As far as I'm aware, nothing has been broken. Language is generally ok, I've not seen too much in the way of insults. I don't feel standard have slipped around here, Joey for example was dealt with fairly quickly.

If anyone has a read through the House Rules and feels they are now out of date, then let me (and/or BLS and El_B) know, and if there's enough interest we can open a fresh debate on the changes we feel are necessary.

I want the 2011 house rules bought back in.. I feel they had a slower rate of degradation and you could get away with a few more insults before things blew up!

I was not and am still not aware of the specific cause of EMSC's departure. Specifics were not my point as I have no idea of what actually happened. My purpose for posting in this thread was to aim at discovering the possibility of identifying an underlying problem, if there is one, which I thought DHC was hoping for in his post immediately prior to mine.

:)I'm not the least bit upset, Julius!
I am also completely unaware of the "Paella in the face thread", since I have not yet even looked at it.

My concern is that expressed by many others: that a member of this forum should decide for whatever reason, to leave it. My comment was aimed at identifying an underlying cause to various members' reactions (if there is one), notwithstanding that every individual may also make decisions for personal reasons – and of course is only an opinion, albeit based in part on the knowledge that I have young relatives who visit this site, which naturally colours my own perception of how it might be viewed by the public and how those who know me might view my association.
I should also like to say that any comparisons I might make are entirely limited to F1 sites and have not the slightest regard for what happens elsewhere within this site. Indeed, a brief perusal of it is an embarrassing disgrace; and if we limit ourselves with comparisons to litter trapped in a gutter, there can be little hope that our F1 board will appeal to the more discerning newcomer.

Once again – as I hope may now be clearer in light of my response to Julius – my mention of House Rules was a general enquiry about the state of this forum and whether anything might be improved, and was not specific to whatever events may have precipitated EMSC's decision. What I was seeking to explore was whether there was something the forum could be doing better, as I thought was being requested by someone showing concern: i.e. yourself.

I am very pleased to learn that they are now available for anyone to see, as should always be the case. Thankyou,
    DHC.

The joys of a sig, knew it would come in handy one day :)

Everything in life is a bit of give & take. I guess its personal preference in how much some people can take whilst brushing it off with a smile.

Maybe Manny and Silver can be awarded it posthumously in recognition that their loyalty to their hero's made them implode? Nothing says dedication more than sacrificing yourself for your driver.

In all seriousness having looked back through the last few pages of the GP thread I think that something like this was inevitable. After last year some of us (Including me) gave Michael a fair bit of stick during races I'd say mostly warranted like at Singapore and so In many ways the moment that Hamilton began to struggle Manny was always going to seize his chance to give some, for his own sake he probably should of just taken the moral high ground and risen above it.

If he's left for good that's a shame but not one poster is bigger than the forum most of the chat is good natured (so I don't think the house rules need changing) I just hope he does not do what Silver did shortly and return the moment Vettel won in Malaysia and then left again.

Maybe it should be called 'The No606, Roy Castle Recognition of Extreme Fanboy Meltdown Award'.

    Proper dedication. :)

And Manny stoutly defended his driver and heaped imense praise on him when he did something that he thought was good.

Swings and roundabouts, but it's just a forum, it's just the internet, perspective needed.

Aye... Hardly reason to quit. Like you say, he got it in the neck every time Schumacher had stinker, so can't complain when he doles out some grief. :)

As I have suggested to others in the past, Maybe Manny needs some time off to reflect (also is he doing exams at the moment? I know this has been a stressfull time for some users).

I hope he comes back, same with some other past members. the forum is not the same with some missing characters <wah>
