In his first press conference Hughton stated that he enjoyed a good passing game. I was wondering what does this mean? Is it following the model of Barcelona with their fluency or does he simply mean don't be selfish? I was also thinking what would happen with regards to Norwich's style of play because under Lambert we have mixed it up a bit but we have mainly played a more direct style of football. Lambert has brought these players in who are pehaps good at playing this sort of football. But if our style was to change could our players adapt and be as effective? Obviously Hughton will bring in the players he likes and hopefully they will fit in well at our club. It will be interesting to see how we change and how effective it will be over the course of the season.
I wouldn't look too much into this in the short term...Hughton hasn't been given the time or the resources to build his own squad yet. What he has done at both Newcastle and Brum, is inherit other people's squads and got them playing to their strengths. With pace down the wings and a big man up front, you look quite similar to our championship winning side and Birmingham's team who just missed out this year, so I think you'll play similar football. One thing Hughton does like is the high defensive line, squeezing the opposition upwards, eliminating the space for them to pass in and causing them to go route one BUT occasionally failing and leaving **** loads of space for their strikers to run into...Sometimes it worked brilliantly (our 1:0 away at the Emirates) and sometimes our fans would be pulling their hair out in frustration! I'm very interested to see how things pan out over the next few years, as I really do rate Hughton and I think he could definitely mold you into a solid Premier League outfit, perhaps nothing spectacular, but with good honest players putting in blood, sweat and tears performances every week, challenging for top half spots and going well in the cups!
