A genuine question - should it matter whether a manager is a decent bloke or not when you his evaluate his performance in the role, and his suitability to continue ? Or is it more a case of 'not wanting to shoot Bambi' syndrome?
Some things are more important than others. It's important to be nice, but as Jose Mourinho consistantly shows, you don't need nice to get a job. Frankly, nice on it's own is no reason to keep Powell or anyone else in charge, and while I've often defended Powell on here, that's not a relevant aspect in my book.
Some people will and some people will not...... as I understand it Curbs wasn't a 'Mate' of the players but got respect from players and fans because he could manage a team.....Dowie was just weird ......Uncle wasn't respected because he was weak..... Pardew was trying to shag the players wives so wasn't liked except by the Goalkeeping coach who had a pig ugly wife.... Parkinson seemed to be respected at first but had a total distrust of our own youth players, had a strange player recruitment policy (some diamonds a lot of dogs) and his tactics were worse than Chris's generally....... then Chris, loves Charlton, still learning always gives 100% to anything Charlton and well respected. Does Chris deserve credit to being a nice man?? no..... does he deserve credit for what he has done over the last 2 1/2 seasons..... yes
All successful managers have to be bastards at times, doesn't stop them being good fathers/husbands/friends etc. Maybe the question should be whether The Doctor has the nasty bit.

Totally agree. There's a post of mine somewhere back in the mists of time claiming (a bit optimistically) that Les Reed would be the new Lenny Lawrence. People adjust their opinions on what they see, and that is ever changing. Mind you, the Volly 'that was then, this is now' posts are about as radical a swing as you could hope for.
Nothing is more tedious than Vol doing nothing but banging on with his anti Powell agenda, it is ruining this forum to be brutally honest
Might not be the only one, but at least others have more to talk about than just slagging off Chris Powell. I used to pop on this forum every day, now i hardly bother due to this todge
